    A vacancy at Derby?

There is much media speculation today that Steve McClaren could be on his way from Derby. He is apparently due to meet the board latter to discuss his future. Having been high up the league before Christmas, the owners must have been very disappointed to see them fall away like they did.

I also think that the interest in him from Newcastle United wouldn't have been happy news in the Derby boardroom. His Derby side on paper should really have done better. As we all know it's on the pitch that counts. The loan signings of Tom Ince and Darren Bent in the beginning seemed to give them that extra advantage. But look out it ended for Derby.

Derby ,Newcastle,Leeds,Wolves to just a few big clubs with big histories it takes a certain kind of Manager/Coach to think that he can awake the sleeping giant. And with todays financial climate in football I expect very many of 'The Giants' to remain dormant for a very, very long time, if in fact they ever wake again!

If Steve McClaren does end up leaving Derby i don't see him being out of work for long. Whoever replaces him has a good set of players, but maybe Derby's chance has gone after the season just gone.

It will need someone who has been there and done it to get Derby up if you ask me. Big Sam may the answer if he leaves West Ham United.

The job at the top of the managerial/coaching pinacle of a Football club has changed so much IN THE LAST 25 Years it's frightening,
KJ must know for sure after a very good season back in the Chump narrowly missing out on the play-offs,expectations next season will mean the minimum requirement will be promotion Ideally automatically and worse case scenario the PO'S otherwise it may well result in calling in the Removal Vans.
No pressure then mate! But in this game Ironically you cannot afford to let the Grass grow beneath your feet.

I'm hoping Wolves can mount a challenge next season, but i think other clubs including Derby will hope for the same. Football supporters expect and hope for improvements each season. Expectations under Kenny Jackett has lifted, but i won't take nothing for granted. As we all know managers/head coaches are put on a pedestal one minute and then the next fans call for their heads when results don't happen.

Interesting to see how Derby will do next season with or without McClaren. Much of their success was due to loans - Ince, Bent, Lingard, Bamford the previous season...and now Jamie Ward had left IIRC. All those players will be gone so it'll be a near brand new attack for them. I don't think using the loan system in such a way is a good long term strategy.

Highly rated Real Madrid coach heavily linked to the Derby County job. He's also worked with Carlo Ancelotti at PSG and Chelsea. Maybe Clement thinks it's time to go it alone if these rumours are to be believed.

Paul Clement confirmed as the new Derby County head coach. He's highly rated after working alongside Carlo Ancelotti. It will be interesting to see how he copes from now on. - view external link
