Does bad hiring lead to too much firing?

Very interesting article on the BBC website regarding the hiring and firing culture in football. Do you think the club has a plan for succession when it comes to recruiting new managers and have to fit a certain criteria and philosophy, or do you believe it's more a case of desperation and trying to please the fans? - view external link

Yes and no.. Some clubs have a blueprint ala Swansea where there is a ethos in the club.. Derby are the same, we are following a plan.

Others ala our friends down the A52 will stumble from appointment to appointment.. We have done this in the past but I firmly believe we have moved on from that.

Football of all industries should know fairly well who they employing, it should not be a surprise what sort of football you will get when you employ big Sam..

Yet for a club like West ham he did very well except for the arrogance of their fans in believing that he did not know how to get the team to play the "West ham way" whatever that means!!

    really interesting post stimac.

I think there's three main reasons for so much firing:

    1. bad hiring in a particular form. in that I mean far too much emphasis is placed purely on past results. nobody seems to ask the question 'why'? why did they achieve those results? what was already in place before they arrive? does their results in precious jobs mirror the situation that we're in?

    2. no emphasis on cultural fit.

    3. deflection tactics. chairmen/owners deflecting the blame away from themselves. This has created the culture in football of, if there’s a problem it’s all the managers fault. nothing to do with them.

Did not say there was anything wrong with big Sam if you want to play that way..
My point is you know what you are getting so if you are Swansea or West Ham and you employ Sam don't be surprised if it does not work. However we still see clubs doing this.. Madness and bad hiring which was the question asked in the OP.
