Thread: Transfer Rumors

    Transfer Rumors

Seems to be very quiet on here this time of the year. Have read a few interesting bits and pieces from various media so I thought we could put together a thread on all transfer activity that the club have been linked with.

According to the Sentinel, the club have held talks with Alan Tate but also have similar targets. Baker confirmed the club had spoken with Peter Clarke before he signed with Bury. Judging by their recent signings (Leon Clarke), it's fair to say that Bury will be offering a decent wage in this league.

Olly Turton, Guthrie, Matt Tootle & Coco are all still mulling over their contract offers.

The club also confirmed that they have held talks and offered a contract to free agent Greg Leigh.

Found this interesting. The club are looking at adding additional coaches in a re-structure of the club.

Did they say what areas the coaches were for, its glib to say a defensive coach but we seem to need one. Isn't only the other week SD was saying he was going to be more hands on?
I would rather get in a bit more quality on the pitch than extra coaches. Surely the academy is a bit bloated already ?
Not sure if DG still gets a wage but surely time to say thanks but off you go and I think maybe Bakes time here has run its course. People get stale if they stay too long IMO. New blood and new thoughts bring success, similar to when DG came here he was ahead of the game in coaching techniques. Now we seem to e struggling.
Be good to see a fit, motivated Tootle again but I think he'd prob be better off with a fresh start somewhere. You could argue that Coco owes us one but can he stay out of trouble?
Bury must be paying more but puzzles me as our transfer income in has surely been far greater than theirs in recent years and they get roughly the same crowds I guess?

It's not long since the bucket collections were being made to ensure Bury's survival.

Since then, one imagines that the JD Sports stadium renaming and overall sponsorship has brought them lots of dosh, enough to offer players like Hallam Hope the kind of money they wouldn't get from us. And cut Ryan Lowe the kind of deal that would have kept the Alex up easily if we'd been in a position to make it.

Mornflake's continued support of the Alex is nice, but does it bring us only (O.K., not oats) chicken feed in comparison?

Don't be ungrateful, unlike Bury (pop. 60,000), "We're just a little club"..."Punching above our weight."

It is interesting, I was assuming that it related to Alan Tate and changing the keeper coach position, as surely

    re: Transfer Rumours

Its strange that all our problems are all of a sudden down to Neil Baker and Dario, at least that's an argument from some posters who will always find something to complain about. Its a rather pathetic argument to make and doesn't address any of the issues with regards to signing existing and new players.

I'm also not bothered about what Bury are doing, we will see where they end up at the end of season. If they want to pay inflated wages for players good luck to them.

bury and rochdale spend there money on players wages

we spend ours on backroom hangers on

if people say - its not true

how many people are taking a wage at the heath that arnt players

    anyone --- list please

if were short of money i would pay for the next 5 years season ticket in advance 1000
and pay the difference - eg 95-00 or up or down each season for 5 years

ive bought mine this year - so it would be next 5 years after this

I wasn't aware that Rochdale spent big on players or their wages. They had a cracking season last year, their first out of the bottom flight for a couple of years and only their second promotion since 1974. When they played us they were attractive to watch, well coached and good passers of the ball. It will be interesting to see how their second season goes.

It is true that Bury are spending money like water, but they also have also taken out massive loans and hugely inflated rates of interest using their ground as collateral. This may succeed for a few seasons, much as it did for them when they were with us in the Championship. But, just as it did then, this may be short term with trouble down the road.

The Alex have their own problems with one or two Board members (who seem to prefer to withdraw rather than even leave the funds that should be available to the manager) but over 30 years of sound management and achievement suggest we are getting things right more often than eith

Iv'e read that Newport in League 2 have a good budget this season. Their manager Terry Butcher is trying to tempt Alan Tate there.

    re: Transfer Rumours

Some actual rumours for us to feast on today, before they inevitably don't come to fruition.

We're looking at Oscar Gobern, who is out of contract at Huddersfield - however, so are Coventry and Walsall. I think he'd be a great signing - some actual quality to replace Ness or Grant. Only 24 aswell. He'd be at the top of our wage bill mind, but so was Grant.

Secondly, apparently we will have ex-Tottenham forward Souleymane Coulibaly training with us over the summer. He was most recently playing in Italy. I know next to nothing about him, but I assume he's a winger and not a centre forward.
