So What Do You Think Of Mac Now?

Now the enevitable has happened and Mac has beend as Newcastle manager has it changed any ones opinion on him being sacked? Acording to the DET he said he turned down the Newcastle job in January! Why the hell didn't he say so? I think the board were right to say 'on yer bike mate'

In this day and age, given the uncertainty of tenure that managers are generally faced with, I can't find it in me to condemn any manager who looks after his own interests. On the whole clubs show no loyalty to their managers and I can't see how they expect much more in return. That's the modern way, regrettable as it may seem.

Same as I did 3 months ago - he's a ginger weasel (sorry to offend your boyfriend Swaledale).

I've also read he's taking Round with him. It was only a couple of weeks ago he said Round isn't staying at Derby because he 'needs to go out and get a job'.

There's something not right with that, either Round didn't get on with the players or it was all part of the Weasels grand plan.

I hope that in a couple of years time we can look back on his reign and say it was an integral part of the club regaining its place amongst the elite, much in the same way as people say the same of Clough in his role of halting our decline.

Whilst the likes of Blattea will disagree for sure, I think he succeeded in moving us up a few more notches, and created an entertaining and largely successful side from the players he inherited and loaned (deliberate omission of word "bought" there). I don't think he found any new gems, but he polished quite a few diamonds in the rough who otherwise may well have faded away. The final few months of the season did however show his limitations as a manager.

The end was inevitable I suppose - if you succeed at one level, those from higher levels will come a knocking and waving "loadsamoney". He cant be blamed for having his head turned and he has got his wish. Good luck to him, no sour grapes. His style of play brought many back to games, myse

I agree and hope Mac does well at Newcastle. I must say i was sick of the rumours of will he won't he and i don't think Mac did enough to kill the speculation. I am happy with a fresh approach and await the new season full of optimism. C'mon you Rams

    Absolutely spot on really.

Did anyone else spot the "ping" in one of Mel Morris's interviews {I think the PC press conference} when MM said "we've learned a lot last season...about unity...".

In the modern game can anybody be blamed for showing a certain self-protection tendency?

Ironically, perhaps SMcC brought about a self-fulfilling prophecy in that by failing to unequivocally distancing himself from Newcastle, he brought about the demise that he was trying to hedge for. That said, I think the emergence of MM may have been the catalyst for SMcC's departure.

    It will be very interestin

I wish Steve and any of the staff that go with him all the best.

He fell short right at the end for Derby but over two years had us playing more often than not some really entertaining football which most of us appreciated.

Not for the first time in his career he has walked in to a poisoned chalice of a role where the expectancy is far greater than he can probably deliver

In many ways Newcastle are the club version of England, amazing support the odd decent player and ****** all trophies to show for it

New chapter for him and us and I'm more fearful for him!

I think it's not quite as one sided as many would like to think. Yes, undoubtedly, he didn't manage the rumours as well as he could have done but Jeez, we asked the guy to manage a football team not the national media. After all, this is a guy who has more reason than most to distrust them.

I also feel there were more people spinning the situation than just Mac. From the point automatics was gone he was dead in the water, position completely untenable and the media machine kicked in with vengeance (e.g. DET reporting Clement with two games of the season left to go). I have no doubt what so ever that many inside the club had decided the way this would play out long before Will Hughes back pass.

For him now? I think he's a busted flush. Don't dislike the guy but he ain't a manager who can change the direction of a club. When he joined us things were going well, he made them go better. After Wembley things were largely less than perfect, I believe he made them just that little bit less

Never liked him, but he did a half decent job.

Once Pardew had gone at Newcastle it all seemed a foregone conclusion. It was just a case of shifting him (SM) on as soon as we could. My take on it is that the owners had decided they wanted him out by the start of March. From that point on the whole thing was a complete disaster.

It's pretty much exactly as I thought it would pan out and I stated my view on this board in January. SM has played the game well by grabbing a bigger job while his stock was at its highest. Fair play to him.

I would suggest watching Chris Martin's interview after the Reading game as this holds a few clues. Not a happy ship.

Spot on bear bit by bit he took his toys down and put them in storage ready to move.

Poor manager that actually did very little to improve where the club were when he arrived and moved us backwards. Not only did he not spot one single diamond but he busted a few we had. Mr consistant Bryson for example. He let some good squad members go, Like Ward. and brought in dross we are stuck with ... all whilst busting the bank by the looks of it.

As for Clough not being able to nurture players click the link and remember how we were playing when he left did
