    Marshall bid rejected

A bid of 1.5 million has been rejected from Brighton for Ben Marshall
For me it's at least 2 million short of where it should be
Marshall will be crucial to the team this season with a lack of creativity in the centre alot will rest on Marshall and Conway providing ammo for Rhodes and gestede(possibly)

One thing the Venkys do do is play hardball when it comes to transfer fees.

I'm damn sure he ll be going nowhere for that figure.

I believe Gestedes not gone to Portugal ..missed the Stanley game with a knock?

I think he's the most likely to go..up wards of 6M.

Then the question is how the FFP perceive our attempts at reducing our outgoings..enough to lift the embargo at some point over the season.

With the embargo lifted we can then at the very least attract a higher calibre of loan players without breaking the bank ..

Not our best player(Marshall that is) but useful,I agree.
Its probably irrelevant but if a not very good winger like Sterling(also British)can go for nearly £50 million(remember he is no great goalscorer either)then Venkys are dead right to turn down £1.5 million. Now get the decimal point one postion to the right, and were talking

Marshall and Conway are both confidence players and need bulling up and cajoling from the management continuosly . They also need to be played when having a dip in form , as this will also give them confidence that the management believe in them . First twos on team sheet for me .

I can sort of see both sides.
The issue is this: if we consistently play both Marshall as right wing and Conway as left wing - and I agree with Needle that this makes sense - what are we going to do in the middle.
I have always preferred 4-4-2, but that requires one central midfielder who is a good "stopper", and one high-quality player - JJ style - who can run and run. Otherwise, it is easy to get swamped in the central areas.
I cannot see that we are going to have the right personnel to play that sort of game, and, anyway, without Gestede, would 4-4-2 be as effective?
In other words, with both Marshall and Conway out wide, it would make more sense to play 4-5-1, so that we can have more control through the middle.
Who would take those central roles? Well, at the moment I suppose it would be Lowe, Evans and O'Sullivan, with the latter in the more attacking role.
I am not convinced that line-up would be truly effective, but are we likely to get anything better from the loan-market?

I see Needle sees him as I do, but I don't see Conway as being such a needy case. In fact GB sees leadership qualities in CC.
As Auck says (as I, and the majority of us say) we desperately need that box to box 'battler' aka JJ. Are we likely to unearth one under our restrictions? Probably a minor miracle needed there.
Given JL coming back with the form he showed just prior to his injury, and I would be a lot happier.
Evans Still cannot see what he gives us, to me he's a spare part. IF it's legacy confidence drain from his injury it's a fair old while since it now, so for me big question mark. But, he's now had a mini lay off to get it sorted so just maybe.
Haven't seen enough of the other contenders mentioned to formulate an opinion, but that's what GB's there for
There will (as we all know) be a big noticeable void there where Dunny was occupied even though he was less and less 'present'. But as the saying goes 'time marches on' and we've just got to get on with it.
    Much opp

The Transfermarkt site has a good section where you can put in certain criteria to search among the players who are out of contract.
I have put a link below.
One of the midfielders who took my eye was John Lundstram who has been released by Everton. A lot of Everton fans were surprised to see him go.
It looks as if he came close to a deal with Wigan last week, but that possibility seems to have faded. He is the type whose wages we would be able to afford.
Danny Guthrie used to be very good, but his reliability and fitness are not to be trusted perhaps. I imagine his wages would be high too. - view external link
