I knew Shackell would be gone once the bidding topped £3 million.

The prize £250k took it to "in excess" of £3 million (according to the BBC and several newspapers).

All in all, a good deal for Burnley...more than £2 million profit on a 32-year-old defender after probably the BEST three years of his career. In a way, it's a bit like Derby LOANING Burnley for 3 seasons and getting promotion with the Rams PAYING us £2 million for the privilege.

I can see JS telling his grandkids when he is an old man "The highpoint of my career was with Burnley in the 2014/15 Premier League.".

The fee is 2.5m. Rising to 3m with add ons. Over 3m is rubbish

So 2.25m as we won the 250k from Skybet.

Can't moan at that! Who else can you get that's better than Shackell for that?

The way I see it Burnley have had our pants down if the fee is £3m BUT saying that if he helps us get promotion (which he did for the Clarets) then it all becomes irrelevant. Same with the Ince fee and the supposedly high wages (Dyche) says we are paying. If we can afford it which I don't think someone like Sam Rush would allow if we couldn't then why not pay it. Our goal is the Prem and you need prem quality to get there. He was one of the best centre halves in the prem from what I seen last year and we all know how well he played when he was here. I don't think he's too old if he's good enough. It is the price you have to pay nowadays. Good signing in my opinion. Just out of interest do we know how much he was on at Burnley? Next question was Keogh offered by Derby or wanted by Burnley?

I have been told in the last couple of hours that the amount we have paid is well in excess of £3m and that when the Club disclose the fee that we will be paying, the amount stated will be the lowest possible figure - e.g. excluding the Skybet £250k and excluding all tax that is payable on the transfer. But the truth of the matter is that we have paid well in excess of £3m!

Further to this, I was also told that because we showed our hand and made JS very much aware just how badly we wanted him back playing at Derby again, his agent did a excellent job on behalf of his client and got him exceptionally good personal terms [virtually everything that he was asking for!] for the move to go ahead - which was the reason for the small delay.

This all seems like a considerably shortened version of the George Thorne deal 12 months ago where we have paid well over the odds in both transfer fee and in particular on personal terms. Burnley apparently can't believe that they managed to get the fi
