    3rd shape?

What are thinking then, I'll go for 343, possible team selection tomorrow:-

    In goal
    Carson

    Back 3 possibly
    Christie
    Shotton
    Shackell

    Across midfield

    Hendrick
    Hanson
    Bryson
    Forsyth

    Front three possibly

    Weimann
    Bent
    Russell

Or something like that, the diamond will be our system though

    re: 3rd shape?

I'm gonna guess we'll stick with 4 at the back and just use variation in the middle. We've the tried and tested 4-3-3, we've been learning the 4-4-2 diamond which we may well prefer, and I reckon we'll go with a 4-2-3-1 as the 3rd option. It just doesn't suit us to play defensively, so a 4-5-1 is out of the question.

Our best XI in a 4-2-3-1 would be:
    Grant
    Baird, Keogh/Pearce, Shackell, Forsyth
    Thorne, Hughes
    Russell, Ince, Weimann
    Martin.

We actually have the defenders to play 5 at the back but our quality is further forward. If we went 5-3-2 we'd have:

    Grant
    Keogh, Shackell, Pearce
    Christie, Forsyth
    Hendrick, Thorne, Hughes
    Martin, Weimann

My guess - and it's only a guess - is that it'll be something with three centre-backs and two advanced wing-backs with instructions to get forward.

That might be the system to get the best out of Forsyth.

Clement seems happy that Shotton is a CB and with Shackell, Pearce, Keogh and possibly Buxton (once Clement gets to see him play) ahead of Shotton in the pecking order, Clement seems quite happy to have five centre-backs in the squad.

I guess we'll find out at 3.00 pm today.

I agree though 4-4-2 diamond is looking like the preferred system.

    re: 3rd shape?

I agree with you, 4-4-2 diamond will be the main system this season.
    Christie-Keogh/Pearce-Shackell-Forsyth
    Thorne
    Hendrick-Hughes
    Ince
    Martin-Weimann

    Plan B is 4-3-3
    Hendrick-Thorne-Hughes
    Ince-Martin-Weimann

    Plan C is 3-5-2
    Keogh-Pearce-Shackell
    Christie/Bryson-Hendrick-Thorne-Hughes-Forsyth
    Martin-Weimann/Ince

It's nice to see we have alternatives in case we do get injuries unlike last season.

I think Ince will struggle to fit into 3-5-2 though.

in my opinion I cannot see Christie or shotton in starting line ups . and would not be surprised to see Christie out on loan as I see baird there. and shotton perhaps sold in January.

Yeah I'd get shot of Shotton, I wonder if Forest would be interested in a Shotton/Antonio swap deal!
