Thread: Scottish players

  1. #1

    Scottish players

“It’s something that doesn’t happen to us in Scotland. No disrespect to the other Scottish teams, but they’re not clever enough players or quick enough thinkers to punish us."

    Who said that?

    NO GOOGLING!

Clue - he's Scottish and used to be a player.

    A Scotland internationalist no less

John, he is not correct at all.

If he was right Celtic would win every game, and set up with 9 men up front. They fact they don't suggests they know that they'd be picked off for over committing in attack.

It's a ludicrous comment - the latest in a string of them from the classless club you support - that has no substance.

If Collins had said that some players in Scotland do not possess the same qualities as some players Celtic face on the continent to punish them when they over-commit in attack then he'd have had a strong point, even though it would still have been a bit disrespectful to vocalise such an opinion. But the fact is that's not what he said.

He was perfectly correct and is simply echoing the words of Macinnes and other managers in Scotland, as well as the press. Scottish teams are poorly prepared for European football because the standard of the league they play in is one of the poorest around. Everyone slagging him off now are the same ones saying how Celtic should have the title sown up by Christmas and they are crap if they don't. You cannot have it both ways.
Either everyone is brilliant and it is a miracle that Celtic have won the last four titles without getting out iof second gear, or Collins and everyone else is right - the scottish league is pish, and when we come up against decent opposition in Europe, it shows.
You seem to have a handle on exactly what he said, so perhaps you could try not to take certain parts out of context and make it look like he was lambasting everyone.

    re: Scottish players

What Collins said is idiotic on so many levels, firstly if you are from a small country and are playing the best teams from other countries in Europe then you will come up against teams that are better than you are, it's a simple fact. and it is pointless blaming the other teams in your league for your short comings.

What Collins also has to understand is that Scottish football is a product that we must try and sell to the public, sponsors, TV companies etc, he is in a senior position in the biggest club in the league that we are trying to promote and improve, to come out with this nonsense does nothing to help the cause.

I can't remember Collins or Ronnie moaning about the lack of quality in Scottish football when they were jumping about, fist pumping in celebration of their league win, or their Scottish Cup win (oops never won that) or their League Cup win (oops again, never won that either).

It's Celtic that can't have it both ways, they can't demand the Lions share of rev

DrumDandy, Celtic won the league AND the league cup last season. We beat Dundee United in the final.

    What did Aberdeen win?
