Where have all the posters gone?

All of a sudden, or so it seems to me, there are no posters on FF. My excuse is that I have been in and out of hospital all spring and summer, and this has seriously disrupted my lifestyle as well as resulting in cancelled holidays.

Have they all gone to other boards? Have they passed away to that great Fratton Park in the Sky? Where is the wit and wisdom and occasionally unseemly banter that used to prevail? I didn't like the latter much, but then you don't have to join in with it when it raises its ugly head, so I didn't.

In the past there was much to criticise about Pompey: the training ethic, the personalities, the competence or lack of it on the pitch, the unusual choices of the Manager then current. Now, with a winning start, we seem to be mesmerised and as it were holding our collective breaths in case we happen to lose.

Well, that time will come, soon enough; we have already lost twice - once away and once at home in the respective Cups, There will be times when the te

I hope Scully wont mind me saying but he has suffered a great loss recently hence his quiet spell. He knows that he has my greatest sympathy.
We got the 3 points on Saturday I craved for. However I thought the Officials were absolutely dreadful. Martin Allen was moaning after about one of our tackles (as well as South Stand lino decisions which I still wait to see on the TV later). Well he never mentioned the awful take out of Roberts so early on, which didn't even get anything from the hapless Referee. Robbo was nowhere near his best after that, no surprise to me when he didn't reappear after half time.
Back to the Referee, CC was clearly fouled in the 2nd half, but Mr England didn't see it that way. Not the only thing he didn't see was it. CC must learn to play to the whistle, as he picked up a crazy yellow card for picking up the ball ready to take the free kick, which it should have been in the first place
For those who weren't there we had 9 yellows and the red, oh for

I hadn't been down since the first home game of the season and expected better. We have gone backwards. Far from parking the bus Barnet were the best side in the first half with their c/forward playing excellently as a target man and their lead rightfully deserved. Then they started time-wasting and what with Tellytubby Allen and his ridiculous antics on the touchline, they slowly fell apart. Bennet was a disgrace. I can take a player being out of form but Chaplin made several great runs only to be denied the killer pass by Bennet showing off on the ball and turning the other way. Luckily he was unable to feck up the move for the last goal though he did his best to be caught offside. He looks surplus to requirements to me at the moment until he learns it's a team game. Davies was excellent as was Burgess. Still not convinced by Webster, too much the shrinking violet, he needs a few lessons in front foot aggression from Davies my MoM.

As for the absent posters I miss Chiz, SD, Bulcy

Thanks, LDB, for the update on Scully. Best wishes all round I think. I know Sui got a bit disillusioned and hope his eyes are holding up.

Didn't realise we were THAT bad on Saturday in the first half. I thought it was fairly even; yes their lone forward did play well, but if the opposition has a lone forward, you do expect yer own team to be able to mark him out of the game . Think they call that double teaming in Gridiron. We were lacking in ambition. I am expecting better skills utilised more often when we play both home and away.

They say that the best form of defence is attack. So, to keep the opposition from scoring we need to attack more, not less. Holding the ball whether literally or metaphorically is not the answer, and will only lead to concession eventually.

Our second big test is coming up; the first was Plymouth away; now we have the opportunity to play against an old manager of ours @ Oxford. They are no mugs, having conceded few goals in typical Appletonesque s

I'm still lurking. I won a proper honours board golf comp on Saturday, cheated my way to a net 68 and won it by 3 amazingly. Where's my old sparring partners to question my ethics.

I have so little ethical behaviour that I've now been invite to be the Competitions Secretary next year. With a position of such authority (not seen since my desk monitoring days) I could do some serious damage.

As for Pompey, I'm going to bring my girls to their first ever game soon. Will either be a Tues night game in Oct or a Sat game in Nov. Will let you all know when I do, be good to catch up.

    Best wishes to Scully.........

If Chis reads this I had lovely fish and chips (as always) Thursday in the best outlet in Lyme Regis. That through road was due to shut yesterday for 6 weeks for urgent repairs to a building. Some unhappy shop keepers down there for sure

We were in Lyme Regis a couple of months back, got relatives that way'ish.
Which fish and chip place is that then?
I did take note of a pub* right down by the cobb/harbour which advertised a full gluten free menu.

Edit: *Just googled it, it's The Cobb Arms, not surprisingly!

Lyme's Fish Bar on Coombe Street. Nearly always a big queue there which should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of it. Same fella's been running it for years and I believe he doubles up as Manager of Lyme Regis FC.
