Northern soul and disco have similarities,
the guys strutt their stuff up on the dance floor by dancing with themselves thats just the way it was some of the time you would dance with the ladies ..all great fun.

I used to go to Wigan Casino when i were a lad,loved the Northern soul scene,theirs a great video on you tube of Fred Astaire and Eleannor Powell dancing,but someone has cut the original music out and replaced it with "Just a little misunderstanding" by the Contours,well worth a look if you like Northern soul.
