A few points on the Wolves match

Brilliant win. Was expecting a bit more from Wolves considering they were amongst the favourites for promotion this season but we thoroughly deserved the win and the scoreline could have easily been 5 or 6. Just a few comments on individuals:

Martin - One Wolves fan said after the game that he's the best striker in the Championship and it's absolutely true. Should have had a hattrick and the Wolves defence just couldn't handle him. I commented on my last post that he's been a bit off the ball recently which I think was fair, but even then he was still scoring. Just goes to show how high the standard is for the lad. Still can't believe we ever got him on a free.

Johnson - Man of the match. He's absolutely talismanic. Just oozes class. Not much more to say on him. £6 million is looking an absolute steal!

Ince - Now for the bad comments... I'm getting a bit concerned about him. The only game so far this season where he's looked like the player from last season was against Reading

    Some decent observations RamBam.

The "best striker in the league" debate is a highly subjective one. I agree, Martin is the best. In our team, he's pivotal, and I wouldn't swap him for anyone in this division. That said, QPR fans would argue Austin, a proven Premier League goalscorer is better. Blackburn would likely hype Rhodes up, and it wouldn't surprise me if Burnley thought Gray was the top dog. In terms of "doing it all", Martin is a clear winner for me. A team player, who improves everyone around him, and he weighs in with 20+ goals to boot. A D_D rating of 9 from me, due to the missed penalty. So close to a 10.

Johnson has given our midfield the balance it needs. His steel and bite are just what we need. After Martin, he was the best player on the pitch. Also a 9.

I'm not overly worried about Ince. I thought he was good against Birmingham and Reading, and he proved to be decisive vs. MK Dons. I'd keep him in the side simply for the fact teams double him up, leaving spa

No 'barrage of hate' RamBam, think you're absolutely fair and right on all four counts. Ince is a bit of a concern, set pieces were poor yesterday and little of the threat from last season but he did still win us a penalty and hopefully he'll come good again. As far as Thorne is concerned I think he may be paying the price from earlier in the season in so much as we started off with him playing the role of singlehanded 'enforcer'. That, combined with an understandable lack of match fitness and a desire to impress led to an almost obligatory booking each game and he's now holding back a bit in order to avoid suspension. Not sure if it's the end of October or November (no chance) he's got to get to, but either way...thank God (or Mel) for Johnson.

C'mon D_D, where are the scores on the doors? You and Ella are letting us down. Having said that, agree with all your comments this morning, particularly re: Hendrick, who was a changed player in the second half, and Butterfield, whose chipp

I agree with you Angry, Ince is a potential match winner even if he's been absent for 89 minutes. I am not really concerned, he is a like a lot of players in that gifted mould. It's a bit 'on & off' and the trick is to get them playing more 'on' than 'off'

I also thought Butterfield looked keen & lively for the short time he was on the pitch, His time will come....

I think Ince is more effective away from home. Home teams press and leave space for him to exploit. Dangerous man to have in the side. Him and Russell are great men for 'occupying' defenders. The lad who marked Russell yesterday had a decent game but he daren't lose sight/touch of Johnny as he knew he had the pace to do him!

I agree about incey, not a 90 minute player and hasn't played that well.weimann must be chomping at the bit for a start....good competition in the squad if he doesn't play well....he is a match winner though even if not 100%

No matter how long Ince plays poorly, I would still not want to start Weimann. May as well put a rabbit on the pitch. Would do exactly the same job.

Thing with Weimann is that he hasnt been given a run in team to get established. Bit part role he has played so far doesnt really allow him to get settled and play with confidence. Sure that contributes to him snatching at chances when he has been on the field.
You can look at it a different way though, in that in the limited time he has been on the field, he has got himself into some great scoring opportunities. Be more worried with an attacking player like that who has no impact on a game in the sense of creating chances.
Fully understand why he is on the bench, just saying think there is more to come from him yet, and who knows, scores a goal and more quickly follow??

Harsh that RamBam. Have to agree with su4e...so far I feel he's been played out of position in a team which, at the time, wasn't playing with much confidence. Still think, and hope, there's a lot to come from our current subs, particularly Weimann and Butterfield. Weimann's still only - just - 24, and such scathing 'knocking' of another young player won't help.
