    Telephone landline unusable?

Is it just me, but is your telephone landline almost unusable now? Nearly every call I get is an automated message for PPI or something similar. Mine is now on constant voicemail and I never answer it anymore unless someone leaves a message and I will either pick it up or call them back. I do not think I have had a genuine call on my landline for at least two months.

Are landlines rapidly becoming extinct? Mine is.

I couldn't do without a landline and so far have been ok. But I know what you mean, when I go to my sisters I can't believe that every time the phone goes she's lucky if she knows 1 in 10 of the callers! That would do my head in!

The death of the landline is very sad. I still remember all my schoolmates home phone number, and everyone knew and chatted to you or your mates mum (careful now).

i am registered with the TPS and have been for years, but they cannot monitor or stop the calls from abroad or the pre-recorded calls.

If they ask for ad person, or call about something where you need to get an old bill, for example, to compare prices offered etc. Just say ' oh, one moment, i'll go and get them/it' then leave the phone on the sofa, or in the dog's basket for 10 mins and carry on with what you were doing in the first place

Yes I have done that Toggles

I have also used one saying that they have dialled a Government security number and that the call is being monitored to detect their location and they will be getting a visit from a security agent within a few minutes. They soon sod off the line then!
