Cheltenham Town Winger - bid rejected

CHELTENHAM Town say they have rejected a £30,000 bid from Derby County for 16-year-old winger Luke Thomas.

It is being reported that Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker has confirmed the Rams had made an approach.

"There has been a bid, but at this stage we have turned it down because it does meet our valuation of the player," Baker said.

Thomas has been with Cheltenham since he was eight.

    According to Telegraph

Be nice...but I wouldn't get too excited...Southampton, the 'big 3' in London (no, not Fulham, Brentford and Orient) and Benfica(!) have apparently also declared an interest.

Anagram I would be very surprised if any Prem teams would be interested in a young lad who has never started a first team game for a Non league team

Yeah, take your point mista, could just be 'paper talk' but that's certainly what the Gloucestershire Echo, which is where news of our bid being turned down came from, is saying. Prem teams do cast the net far and wide in search of young talent.

The comments (on the DT report) suggesting that as the DT has now made our interest public, it will alert other clubs and drive the price up is truly laughable.

Of course, all major clubs in this country don't bother with their own scouting systems, they just read the DT online!
