Thread: Surplus to requirements

    Surplus to requirements

With January fast approaching who do you think Derby can afford to let go? For me I think Dawkins could go do a job for another Championship or League One club. Also I'm not sure what Bent is on wages wise, but I imagine it's costing us a lot of £££££ per minute of football. So replacing Bent with perhaps a younger striker wouldn't be the worst shout. There's an argument to say why change a good side I guess though.

Off the bat I can two players that are definitely surplus and that's Dawkins and Shotton. Seems like Clement has pretty much the same opinion.
I think Roos' disastrous spell at Rotherham could mean the end of his Derby career.
I can't see Buxton in a Derby shirt again either, which is a shame because I think he has something to give at this level.
I have a feeling we could sell Rawson as well, not sure how much Derby rate him even though Rotherham fans have been singing his praises.

I completely forgot about them. Sammon's contract is up at the end of the season I believe, so I think his career is over. Clough made some cracking signings in his time, but him for £1 million was not one of them.
Albentosa I'd be keen to give another chance to, but I can't see that happening. He'll probably move back to Spain in one of the windows, if a transfer hasn't been agreed already.

Albentosa clearly not up for life in England... Who can blame him! Can't see him coming back to play. Sammon gave his all for us but just wasn't up to standard. What do you think about trying to offload bent? I felt today when he came on we looked a bit more like scoring, but that could have just been a result of Wednesday tiring.

Be sad if he does b&w56. Not as good as Shackell I know - except at passing and scoring - but still better than League One I would have thought. Maybe 'home is where the Nige is'. Wonder who else will end up over there from us and Sheff. Utd.

Bent can go.... Somewhere where they don't play offside.

    re: Surplus to requirements

It does seem that Bent is never going to be on the pitch long enough to get into the game, and PC not keen to change to formation when the opposition have us nullified. So in that sense maybe Bent is a luxury. However if he was given the game time it's not inconceivable that he would get the goals. Regarding being caught offside, that's a result of trying to gain advantage playing off the shoulder of the last defender. Many world class strikers use this method successfully, but will invariably get a number of offside decisions against them.
