Although I don't normally say this perhaps a new manager too ??? if anyone will come with the pending sale ...
It always sounds good, the commentators and pundits love it and it 'bodes well for the future'.
I'm speaking about the back four really, look at today's team sheet and you will see the average age is about 22-23.
And it really shows.
You can get away with this at Windsor Park in Penn on a Sunday morning, in League Two, League One but the Championship is full of wily, experienced midfielders and nippy young strikers.
We are not the Busby Babes or the Class Of '92 ffs.
Priority in January is experience at the back, not another *bleep*ing midfielder.

We obviously need someone to marshall the back line. Williamson came in and did a solid job of it. I don't care what age someone is, as long as they can do the job.
While leadership is probably more likely to come from veteran, I don't want to bring in someone just because they're a veteran. They have to have a record of actual leadership. I don't want a few mediocre veterans blocking the play of young players.

Since probably Day 1 of the season I've said we need a 'been there, done it' type and Williamson did fit the bill in his brief stay. We're certainly lacking leadership- both on and off the pitch.
Of course it's great to have a number of youngsters coming through the academy and it can benefit the club but they need experience around them, especially in the key areas. The Busby Babes and the Class of '92 were exceptional rarities but Southampton have proved you can integrate several youngsters at a time with good management and experience.
