the need for a decent midfielder

It was massively evident yesterday as it has been all season we have no influence through the middle
Evans after showing signs of getting back to his first season best he has dropped off again
he very offen disappears and it has become a necessity to sign a good midfielder to play alongside akpan.

WADR Robin for me this has been a void for far longer than just this season. Last season we had Dunny's waning/ fleeting cameos. From that alone it was glaringly obvious that in that situation you can give up any dreams of promotion.
Without that 'pressing influence', you are always going to be seeing the ball entering your defensive half more often than healthy. This because by circumventing a centrally driving force the ball just does not stick with your lone man ie Jordan up front. Hence despite our prolific strike rate for, the goals against was always the thorn in our side.
This position for me is the critical one for PL to get right/unearth, not so easy even outside of the embargo.
As said before a Adam driving in behind a JR / Graham partnership would give any team in this div something to think about. And yes it may weaken our holding mid a bit, but with a more commanding defensive unit just maybe that wont be as much of a penalty as before.
    I know, I know a Charlie Adam c

    He would be ideal
I have a feeling the money we get for Olsson will bring in someone of that ilk even if it's just on loan
it's time for this club to plan for a push which I believe Lambert is doing
Hopefully venkys are willing to share this vision by opening their wallet a little.

Can we afford someone of sufficient quality without getting rid of Rhodes first?

We need to be a bit wary too. What I mean is: "Beware of Murphys in Good Players' clothing"!!

Quite right,Aucks. The last thing we need is another Danny Murphy or Dickson Etuhu

Jordan Rhodes is single-handedly having to score nearly all the goals(ever other team in the Championship has at least a second player having scored 3 goals this season) so if Jackson cant find the target, its a back-up striker for me.

Very true about not making the mistake of another over the hill player looking for one more payday but I think we can get a player in on loan to help out with the midfielder problem
we are solely reliant on our wingers it looks like Olsson is gone so the fee we have received for him could help cover some of the wages.

Not easy to find another Cowan's, who IMO performed simply because he loved playing the game. Always stayed behind after training at pleasington, alongside Scott sellars, striking passes to each other across the field. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was a thing of beauty to watch his mastery of a football. For me, as good as tugay if not better.

Dont think a quality midfielder will fit in with our hoofball style.

Weve been burned far too many times with midfielders not delivering the goods in recent times. I really, really wish our management would give the kids a chance like OSullivan & Lenihan - just look what happened with Alan Judge - and ASAP ditch our "established, experienced midfielders"who go missing in matches(Akpan excepted here).
