The reason we play direct I think is because we lack it. A few results go our way and some goals scored, then perhaps the football will improve.
Perhaps..
I feel its because we lack talent centrally that's why we resort to long ball
akpan good at breaking play up but a useless at passing
Evans headless chicken most of the time
Guthrie enjoys warming the treatment table
so with the above options our 2 centre backs favour bypassing them altogether
if someone signs for us with that touch of quality to pick a pass then things will change.
Like Allerdyce , its just Lamberts prefered option and favoured style of play . Puts me to sleep .
I think Lambert believes its all about confidence. No sign at all he'll be bringing in any midfielder.

When was the last time you saw us actually play someone in one on one in the last three years ? Indicative of the squad hes inherited not down to his own playing style.
Bowyer had the team playing better , more attractive football with just as good a results ratio (almost) , which would have got better as the season progressed . We would not have gone up , but also would not have gone down . Right now Lambert has to improve us or we just could be relegated .
Corry Evans was a regular in a promoted hull city team, so he must have something about him. He needs a run without being dropped after one below par display.
Like you, Needle, I am a bit anxious. I agree that we were playing better and creating more chances under Bowyer, but I am hoping Howie is right that this is just a transition-period. As you say, though, we have to survive first!Originally Posted by needle
I agree totally with JR/Saxo about the business of "confidence". I think it is often overlooked how important it is. I reckon Marshall and Evans are prime examples. When a few things go right, they start to look much more comfortable on the ball. At other times, they appear anxious just to "get rid", as quickly as possible.
I am still a bit mystified that PL has continued the pattern of signing forwards.
