Early days I know but today's result against oxford was definatly about mobility, physicality, work rate and pace from our front players.

The match reports and Appleton's own comments suggest that we took full advantage of what is clearly, still, the considerable gulf between the Championship and Division Two.
It would be excellent if this form could be transferred to the League, but I suspect we are still going to struggle until the end of the season - especially as I can't see how we can invest eight million wisely before Monday's deadline. That means working hard to survive, before looking ahead to the summer. Surely, we will have to sign the creative midfielder we have all talked about, plus a class striker to replace Rhodes. I hope I am wrong, but most of PL's signings so far appear to be stop-gaps.
The great thing about a 3-0 victory, though, is that it gives a big boost to confidence, which takes us back to Saxo's other thread. We certainly will need confidence, though, as I have to say that our fixture-list between now and the end of March looks very daunting. If we ARE still above the relegation-zone at that
But it was a cup game, we were not on a particular good run, we had just lost our 'star' man, we had a few newbies in amongst us. I would say that's more a case of sour grapes from him, as they had every reason to be reasonably confident (hence them being favourites).
Then again, yes for sure we have far harder games to come, but let me put it this way: IF we had lost I can just see the headline now !!!
You should, if you have not, have listened to PL's post match comments, in reflection.
He was not crowing in any way (as he maybe could have) he was very guarded in saying the same thing we all have - no team is one man. There's a huge job to put together a team that can challenge, the real work starts towards the end of this season. JR was a very good servant for us and it would have been nice for him to have stayed, but even with him here we still couldn't manage it.
He echoed we should have sold a season ago and built a challenging team and we would be further on in our quest.
I
Yes Despair,I noticed PLs comments as well, about Jordan Rhodes could have gone last summer. He probably feels we can get better value throughout the team for JRs net worth(good finisher that he is).
Today, positive performance from many new players, maybe only Div.2.opposition but you can only beat whats put in front of you......Lets hope this can be carried forward to the League. Great composure on the ball from Elliott Ward and Ben Marshal Im told from one who travelled down......Marshall really is a class act"when on his game"...lets hope Paul Lambert can get the very best out of his best players...the performances of Watt and Jackson make me look forward to getting to Ewood to see the next home game.
P.S. Why did we only have 6 substitutes today, only 5 against Newport? Wouldnt it make sense to take a larger travelling party to allow for unforseen continguencies -surely younger players such as Mahoney,Green or Wharton would benefit from involvement with the senior squad?
My one criticism of Lambert so far. He seems to have no interest in our academy players at all. The total opposite of souness who was so brave in blooding young players while at rovers, even in important games.

I made the trip to Oxford very apprehensive due to Rhodes going but what a professional performance
nothing fancy but Oxford were not even close
I can remember one maybe two chances for them
That said I would like to see roofe in a rovers shirt that lad has a great future
ward what a defender and if Duffy returns in his place next game that will be a travesty
as mentioned on a previous thread the Marshall Bennett partnership was a joy to behold
pace good understanding and that caused Oxford no end of trouble
lenihan has made lamberts team selection tricky as in my opinion he should be given a run in the team now he bossed the midfield battles
the front 2
brilliant
watt has pace but a brain to go with it he will cause teams in our league problems
Jackson was the panto villain and I loved it he worked so hard all match and needs a massive pat on the back
did he make a meal of every challenge of course but he took Oxford completely out of their comfort zone with tha
