    our season

My mates think I have been over critical of the team this season ,pointing out that it our best for some time .But I see it as a failed opportunity that was wel within our grasp.A couple of very bad performances have cost us automatic promotion.Ive noticed thatteams like Oxford and Bristol seem to go out to flatten the weaker teams from the start, whereas we seem to be in a timid mode in a lot of games .Im still convinced that finishing where we have is a big let down. But lets hope our attitude changes for the playoffs PUP

Agreed FB. My prediction was promotion via the playoffs and what better way to do it than at Wembley. It's a gamble but if it comes off it will be memorable.

Looking at it another way....many years ago...pre playoffs...finishing 6th would have indeed seemed like failure.
The best way of course is to finish top,so maybe ,if we don't go up this season we would storm the league next.

As always Fb talks a lot of sense. I feel we ought to have finished a lot higher but I bet other clubs would say that too. Too much tip tappy football at home especially in the period leading up to Christmas. I know Daz and his gang, plus my eldest, will still feel the pain of those late equalisers conceded at both Carlisle and Morecambe. A Northumberland based Ref at Carlisle who didn't give us owt as they say. They say decisions balance out over a season but I am not so sure. We are where we are and have to get on with it. By the way Tubbsy actually got the ball in the net for Eastleigh yesterday but it was disallowed. So officially he only scored one goal for them and they didn't make the play offs.

    re: our season

I always write down pre-season where I feel we should reach at the end of the season and why I think that. Back in August I had the play-offs as where I thought we should get because of a totally new management & coaching team with virtually a new squad and that it would take time for it all to gel together. Although I haven't seen the team anywhere near as much as I would like I do believe that we are one of the better, if not the best, footballing teams in the Division on our day. Unfortunately the team appear not to respond favourably on quite a few occasions when under pressure, either by the Fratton crowd or by the importance of a particular game which I believe has cost us automatic promotion. I would have loved us to go up automatically, even better finish as champions, but we haven't and I don't believe that I personally should be critical of the team or management as they have achieved what I believed they should have achieved back in August. Hopefully next season, in which ev
