Thread: Horacio Carbonari

    Horacio Carbonari

    Hello there.

I'm writing an article about Horacio Carbonari (it's a kind of Where Are They Now? thing) and I want to get fans' memories about him as a player. Any memories/stories you have - good or bad - please post them here. Doesn't even have to be a story/memory as such, could just be your general view on his time at Pride Park.

I'd want to use some of the your quotes for the article, which will appear on the Yahoo Football website next week. So if you don't want your comments to be used then let me know, and they won't be. All quotes will be credited to the forum.

I should point out I'm not a Rams fan, I'm actually a Hammer. Feel free to abuse me for this!

    Cheers,
    Kevin

From what I remember he came to Derby County with the billing of a typical south american tough defender with a rocket of a shot. For me Carbonari never quite fulfilled expectations, but he was another good find by Jimmy Smith and a decent player on his day. Not in the same league as legends like Roy McFarland, Mark Wright or Igor Stimac.

I remember when we announced that he'd joined that he was supposed to have the 4th hardest shot in world football, not sure how they measure those type of things?? Andreas moller was 1st.

In the concourse, pre-match, that day they had a video montage of him at Rosario. It included a penalty that he SMASHED home. It was driven at the keeper who had his wrist snapped back as it flew in. Rather than celebrate he went over to the keeper to apologise! Always remembered that for some reason. His 40 harder vs Chelsea is another memory

Used to be nicknamed Bazooka at Rosario. Record signing when he came (£2.2m iirc). Was on the cover of the History of DCFC book. Came here a year or two past the height of that team so was more associated with the slide than the rise of the Jim Smith side. I think he scored a goal against Forest, maybe?

Thanks your the replies so far chaps.

So I think what you're saying is, he scored a cracker against Forest?

Surely this alone makes him a club legend?

ps absolutely love the stat about 4th hardest shot in world football. wonder who it is now.
