We have not got anyone suitable within the team to do that. Some might say Shackell, but I do not believe he is an appropriate choice to captain the team.

Paddy Ryan, Dave McKay, Archie Gemmil, John Gregory, Igor Stimac. The link all inspirational captains with a footballing brain. No Derby County team has ever won promotion with out one. How many captains have we had this season? Obviously the manager/s didn't know who to chose. Although Keogh is a good player he is NOT a captain. A good captain would have cajoled the team on Saturday to fight. Sometimes during a match it's easier for the captain to get the team working that it is for the manager.

Saw the title and thought it was about Swale![]()
OTR. Shackle is good enough to captain Burnley to promotion and captain them in the Prem but not good enough to captain us Well saw what happend at Leeds when he was of the pitch
Agree OTR the first priority signing should be a player with the qualities to be captain that's what all the managers of successful Rams sides did.
I do not think he is has the right attributes, off pitch demeanour, or character to do the job effectively. This is just my opinion of courseOriginally Posted by mistaram
Footballing wise he is OK, but I do not see him as an acceptable leader of the team. Being a good captain is not all about what one does on the pitch, but encapsulates all aspects of motivating the team on and off the pitch too. I am not sure he is the best person to do this.
Why has he been overlooked every time this season when we have wanted a new captain? Has he maybe requested not to be considered? Either way, it throws into doubt his suitability.
The answer, and I said this on a thread many months ago about who should be next years captain, is John Terry. A latter day Dave Mackay type person on the field, although perhaps less so off it.
Anyone else think Thorne could do it if he played more games? Always see him trying to gee the players up.
Id him as well yesterday, although I'd go further about the difference between him and Dave Mackay as peopleOriginally Posted by roger_ramjet
I love GT at his best but...as a captain? Sorry can't see it, for exactly the same reason that I sadly don't think we can build a team round him, his fitness/availibility record is dreadful and has been throughout his career...less than 100 games since 2009 I believe and that doesn't take account of the number of times he hasn't finished a match. To put it in perspective, Richard Keogh has played well over 200 in the same period and is rarely subbed.Originally Posted by thederbyram
