    Ben goes to Brighton

The club website confirmed that Ben Hall has chosen not to take up our offer and joins Brighton.

Think he will regret it in the long run Many youngsters take the money but good luck to the young lad
and hope it works out for him

Good, don't let the door slam him on the arse on the way out. Guy was a total bombscare in most of the games I saw him in. Was ok at best with ball on the deck tackling players but the number of times he let high balls over him not realising there were strikers behind him was frightening. Wasnt bad when you stuck him up front at corners either but he's a long way from the finished article as a central defender. Don't think we're any weaker having lost him and at least we got a few quid in as compensation.

Would like to think we won't misis Hall that much, and we start to make new signings before it's too late otherwise it will only be the dross that's left.

We wont sign many if any before the transfer deadline for the simple reason our offers are refuseable unless the door is about to close. We would never offer enough that would make a player jump at it unless their best days were behind them or they were p1ss poor enough not to have many options... McManus and McHugh type of players.

It seems we'll collect roughly £200,000 in compensation. That'll do nicely

Even better if we could top it up with money for Ainsworth, however I think speculation about him was his agent trying to talk up interest. Hes had form for that with Ainsworth before.

Good for Ben Hall. We just need to worry about the players that want to play for Motherwell. £200,000 will come in handy. Will we miss him? I don't think so.

My definition of ‘bombscare’ would be Straker and Ben Hall would never fall into this category.
I would describe as a talent lacking game-time experience and without doubt benefited from him staying another season playing alongside McManus. Assume we’ll play Laing or Kennedy alongside McManus and attempt to find R/L fullbacks and agree Steviex any activity will come late. Whats does £200k get you these days ... 2 fullbacks, mid-fielder and a keeper I hope

Agree the bombscare label is very harsh for Hall - kids are rarely the finished article when they come in and he more than showed enough to suggest he'll make it eventually. That said, 200k is a good amount for us for a guy with only a dozen or so first team appearances.

Presumably we knew the way this was likely going and have been budgeting the fee into what we can offer new players - it's certainly needed!
