    Hednesford Game

I was at the Hednesford game last night hoping to see some good academy prospects. I cannot believe that any of the players are anywhere near to a first team place despite our present basement league position. Not one of the younger players impressed me and only George Ray performed anywhere near to standard required as Hednesford dominated for long periods. Particularly disappointing displays from the Chelsea lad, Saunders, and Udoh.
Points towards a long cold winter at Gresty Road

I`m concerned, lightweight midfield (Bingham spent a lot of last season out, injury prone) same defence that conceded 83 last season, not much in reserve and not much strength and height, I hope i`m wrong but were going into the season pretty much as bad as before, it isn`t looking good!

I find it hard to believe that £1m spent on our Academy each year and we cannot beat a second rate non league team. Must say that virtually all the academy graduates I have seen for the last 2 years appear to go through the motions. Their efforts are what you may expect from little schoolboys. They cannot tackle, lack any physical strength, and most of all seem to lack any desire to win a game.

It appears to me that there is something drastically wrong with our current Academy setup. Looks like it needs a damn good shake up, and lots of changes. Playing professional football is about winning, not going through the motions.

This is lukcour. Spent days trying to logon. Would not accept me. Asked for email so that I could confirm my details, never received one. Once again new site format is a mess. Please get a new programmer?coder.

I agree with PaulCAFC. Apart from a couple of experienced forwards, the rest of the team is no better than the one relegated. The midfield and defence have not been improved. Same ropey first choice centre backs (Davis and Ray) and an absence of full backs. Where is the ball winner in midfield? Two wet behind the ears loan signings - one now injured and the other failing to impress against Hednesford Town. Let us hope that SD really can use his pathetic share of the Grant Hanley money to fill in the gaps. I thought that we would finish in mid-table this coming season and I see nothing to make me feel we are improving sufficiently to push seriously for a quick return to League One. Don't get me wrong, I always want the Club to do well, but SD's usual pre-season verbiage about lessons learned and improved fitness appear to mean as little as they do every season.
