    New midfielders' roles?

Does anybody know which positions the new midfielders players play in - defensive or attacking?
Forde played wide/as a winger in the friendlies, and I know that Jon Taylor is attack-minded, from the number of goals he has scored (plus I've seen him play previously ) but not much idea about the others

from what i have seen from watching on TV over the last couple of years...

forde - genuine wide player (very right footed)
Taylor - attacking and plays from a wide position (both sides) but will look to get alongside a central striker when ever possible.
vaullks - box to box type player. very energetic and fit. All round midfielder.
Scott Allan - ball player. likes to get on the ball and control things. not that quick but very creative. IMO to get the best from him he needs to play in a free role behind the striker or in central midfield if playing 4-5-1 but he is not the quickest and certainly not defensive so needs a holding player alongside him.
Jake Forster Caskey - Attacking, creative, left footed. Again likes to get on the ball and make things happen.

the Allan and JFC signings certainly seem to suggest a different way of playing with looking to keep possession instead of going long early.

There'll be 5 across midfield. 2 doing the dirty work, Vaulks & Smallwood or Halford. Then 3 that can make things happen, Frecks, Taylor & Foster-Caskey. Danny Ward up front with Taylor getting up in support. Frecks can ghost in.

gwru.... For me all those permutations don't fit in..., what is glaringly obvious is Stubbs has gone for youth or should I say younger players.... I for one can see Smallwood being shoved out of the pecking order..., Frecks is no spring chicken anymore but still a very very influential player who Stubbs may choose to use alongside any of the other 7 battling for a midfield spot....

We are now over run with midfielders which can only mean no set midfield on a weekly balance until Stubbs is happy with the set up which in turn will mean disharmony for some players as they don't get a kick... having said that they know what they're up against so should be busting their balls to make the starting 11....

Brin I went against Sunderland Forde didn't show nothing. Halford looked slow. We looked better when Foster-Caskey came on.

Can't play all the younger players, defence needs some protection. Smallwood & Vaulks will give us that. Going to start with Frecks & Taylor. As I said Foster-Caskey impressed, passing spot on.

But as you say once you've got the shirt you've got to bust your balls to keep it. Others there'll be chances. Got to take them.

Our midfield has picked itself for the past few years. Great headache for Stubbs to have

Disappointing news... but it will probably give another player a chance to make their Millers league debut and establish themselves in the first team - let's hope that whoever it is makes the most of the opportunity

Frecklington did start, but went off injured in the second half. Formation at the start was more like a 4-1-4-1, with Vaulks being the deepest midfielder (although he got forward to score a great goal), then Forde, Frecklington, F-C, and Taylor , with Ward up front.
Forde and Taylor were used in quite attacking roles from the wings. Although we had no "lead the line" centre forward, it was quite an attacking formation, compared to the end of last season
