    A dangerous illusion

Forgive me for yet more perceived negativity but reading this and another Millers' forum in recent weeks I have noticed the emergence of a myth. It takes a number of forms but it can be summed up basically as this:

Relegation will not be too bad because we will recruit and build a stronger team that will soon gain promotion and then perform better in the Championship.

This is delusional. It was always delusional but these days it is even more so given the financial implications of dropping down a division. The likelihood is that relegation will be a disaster that will consign this club to years in the wilderness. All this stuff about building on youth and a new club ethos (whatever that means) is just so much guff.

If you want to know what it would be like you could ask any Sheffield United fan how their team rebuilding has gone over the last few seasons.

Great minds, frog. I actually typed about the Blades but deleted it as my post was getting a bit long. But your example is surely spot on.

Totally agree guys, manager would be sacked and the rebuilding would just be a clear out of top earners. Yes delusional. UTM

    Another good post from Monty.

He reminds me of an older version of myself.

I am 57 and Monty I would guess is 62 or 63 given he worked on the gardens 1968-70
