    Surprising or predictable?

Now that deadline day (aka Wilshere day) is all done what are our feelings? Personally I'm surprised we didn't do more in terms of outgoings. Felt sure that at least two of Russell, Johnson, Blackman, Ince, Pearce or Butterfield would have been gone and can't help wondering what the implications are for wages and how much other clubs not being prepared to match what we are paying had to do with that. Also struggling to see the point in letting Grant go to Stoke. Doubt he's amongst the highest earners and he's a good, experienced back up keeper who is unlikely to get game time at Stoke...so can't really see how anyone benefits.
On the positive side, I know too little about Vydra to comment but the signing of Anya seems like a good and positive move to me. Comments?

As much as I have never rated Grant as a goalkeeper, he is good back up and I do not see the logic in letting him go to Stoke and then bringing in an old guy most of us have never heard of? Letting Martin go is a mistake in my book too.

From what I have heard the players are not happy with some of the transfer activity but then again most of them need to keep their gobs shut and just get on with playing to the best of their ability. Something that has been sadly lacking this season and much of the past two seasons as well.

I thought you would be pleased to see the back of Grant, OTR!

I assume the deal was sparked by a Stoke interest and so we could get a loan fee and reduce the payroll. Bringing in Weale seems pointless, albeit free transfer on minimal wage no doubt, as we have Mitchell presumably as #2 and I guess we could recall Roos if we need to (he is in loan somewhere isn't he?)

Maybe we oweStoke one for letting us have Butland as emergency loan a while back?

I myself thought the more important need was for defensive back up, right back and a holding midfielder to allow Hughes up the pitch
Really disappointed that was not addressed

I am feeling the way I normally do about the Rams nowadays, very underwhelmed. I haven't seen anything in NP's approach to the game to be admired. We certainly needed to play with more pace but the problem has been the slow build up play and the delivery to the front men. It now seems we are going to have a pass the ball to Anya tactic, which will surely mean he will be double marked?

I think we need to assume that the old style is going out the window and NP was told that there was no money to spend.

Out goes the need for a single cdm and single Martin type striker and in comes more pace on the wing and up front. This has been achieved with a small profit, whether it works, only time will tell. But at least we haven't thrown millions more at it.

Think eddy is right...the lack of a holding midfielder which in turn releases Hughes to be more creative is the most disappointing thing.
All well and good to have new strikers but with no supply line they're wasted. Believe Anya was used largely as an attacking left back at Watford last season so that, along with Camara's signs of life, provides some hope, but the absence of a 'tough as teak' midfield leader along with OTR's comments about players being unhappy (care to elaborate?) are concerning.

Do I understand correctly that that is that until next January and there is no possibility of any loans before then?

No normal loans until January, but I think we can get youth loans in, for what is worth.

Have to agree with everything that's been said Can't believe we never went for a strong defensive midfielder. We re still weak at fullback To behonest I've written this season off wevegot players we can't get rid of because of the wages we pay Plus side looking forward to seeing Wilson and Anya have my doubts about Vydra was great 3yrs ago didnrt look good at Reading though
