Watching Canadian children's TV each morning with my Grandson, my attention was recently caught by the birthday club where they show photo's and names of kids under 10 whose birthday is that day. I began to notice that all the names that were common when I was in school (60s/70s) seem to have disappeared to such an extent that I rejoiced the other day when I actually saw a "Paul". Some of the common names these days are just older names that have come back into fashion, some are due to the multi-cultural nature of the population compared to South Yorkshire 50 years ago, some are copycats of today's popular 'celebrities' and some are just plain ridiculous.
Coincidentally, on the BBC website today I see that the UK's most popular names for 2015 have been published. The nature of the changes in the ethnic mix there are certainly highlighted by the fact that Muhammad is now the top boy's name in London and the West Midlands.

Any example of ridiculous/unfortunate names being given to their offspring by people you know?
