Joey's clearly not the brightest but to be fair it's a ludicrous rule. Why shouldn't a player be allowed bet on a fixture in a different country in a competition his club was never even involved in? AFAIK only the SFA has these overly strict rules.

OMHS!
What is it with this organisation?
Gamblers, thieves, fraudsters - if it wasn't for the fact that they are beloved of the establishment they would have been shut down years ago!
Oh.. wait a wee minute...

I'm sure plenty players lay bets thru friends and families. None will be as moronic as these daft huns Black and Barton who stroll up to the bookies in Glasgow and put thousands of pounds over the counter![]()

Black bet on games he and/or his team was directly involved in. I can understand why the football authorities would outlaw that - as presumably do the authorities in other sports outlaw bets on games involving the better and/or his team.
But what Barton did is nowhere near as bad - he bet on a game in a different country not involving any team-mate(s), and not even in a competition he or his club were ever involved in. I think it's much ado about nothing to be honest.
He'll not be punished as Black was, but the zero tolerance policy is well-publicised.
The so called zero tolerance policy by the SFA regarding betting on matches anywhere in the world is yet another nonsense by the SFA.
They should relax the rules to a more appropriate level and then fully impose the rules. Rather than their current over-kill in rules and selective failure to apply them
The singing of "football songs" and lifting for it is down to plod and the parliament - not the SFA. The SFA have their own rather bizarre set of rules and this is a self-inflicted "wound". They should cop onto themselves and come into the real world where some people with more money than sense actually place wagers on football matches.
