    International Football

    .....well, England specifically.
Does anyone really care about the national team any more?
Personally I hate these international breaks as I am far more interested in how my club is performing (and league football in general) and find it very difficult to get enthusiastic about the national team these days.
I was 17 when England won the World Cup in 1966 and that was a wonderful achievement, albeit in our own back yard, but since then, apart from 1996, things have been pretty dire.
The sooner we get back to the normality of scrapping for league points the better as the England situation is just an inconvenient distraction in my opinion.
I just wondered if anyone else feels the same?

I look forward to watching England but Southgate taking over doesn't fill me with confidence this time.

England U20's start this week if interested with Fry and Brown selected

Wed 5th v Netherlands at Oldham KO 7pm
Fri 7th v Germany at Huddersfield KO 7pm
Mon 10th v USA at Rochdale KO 7pm

Think prices are £3 and £1.50

I think Southgate is probably the only realistic choice Millertop which says a lot about how far behind English football has fallen.
Don't get me wrong, I always want England to win, I just can't get particularly enthusiastic about them anymore.

Kind of sums up how i feel as well, used to love it, face paint on the works, but ive been gradually worn down by the modern way of football, the sky sports money, the elitism of the premier league, the lack of pride in our English leagues predominantly caused by the FA being buttered up by the premier league, the list goes on.

I try to have faith but soon loose interest after pathetic performances.

A group of millionaires managed by a gutless yes man!

The only good thing is that we have two weeks to get players fit for duty and another two weeks training....bloody boring though...lol

Don't really know why or quite when it happened but I don't care much at all anymore. Same with the England cricket team. Sport is all about money now.

It's been a gradual process with me Monty.
I think I started to lose interest when it became apparent that the England shirt meant nothing to so many of the players.
Representing their country seemed to be an inconvenience to a lot of them and then managers like Sven devalued things even more when he began introducing dozens of substitutes in friendly matches.
I've been to watch England a couple of times at the new Wembley but the last straw was a must win World Cup qualifier against Croatia. The rain poured down all night, England lost and we had to witness the ineptitude of the wally with the brolly.
I'm still interested in the England cricket team though and always look forward to the Ashes series.

I really look forward to them. I wait for them to start with my eldest daughter. Those special matches where we play well and gives you the smallest of hope that maybe just maybe we could be a threat in a competition. It often ends in a terrible game where we just scrape a result.

Either way I look forward to the time I have with my daughter.
