What hold do Manchester City have over the press?

I didn’t really want to post something along these lines because in the scheme of things it may appear somewhat petty, but Oliver Holt’s unbalanced reporting in the Mail is totally infuriating to the point of negligent.

In his article today, with regards to Bennell, why the SOLE focus on Crewe in his comments. It starts off as focusing on football in general but becomes an absolute rant against Crewe. Obviously to a large extent this is understandable because of who has come forward in the past week, and the totally inadequate way our Board have responded, BUT you can actually do an edit replace with Manchester City for Crewe. What hold do they have over him? Is it really just because they have larger legal teams and buckets of money. Jay Dunford has never been near Crewe as far as I can remember. David White played for Man City junior team Whitehill. Have they been asked the same questions? Are they doing an independent review?

When I first started playing for Bennell in 1982 it was for Manchester City junior team Pegasus, previously known as Midas and White Hill and later also known as Adswood. Crewe didn't even have a junior setup then and Dario was still at Wimbledon or Palace. The reason they weren’t called Manchester City, they weren’t allowed. You could only become affiliated to a Club at 14. Crewe did a similar thing with Crewe Railway Juniors.

So it was all a bit covert, but Bennell received expenses and bonuses from City, countless players went on to sign forms for City at 14, we played in Man City kit, trained and played at Platt Lane with priority use, went to watch City for free at Maine Road after games, Ken Barnes watched regularly as did other City staff.

It has come to light since that at least one of my team mates was abused at this time. I thank my lucky stars that the only time I stayed over we had safety in numbers as most of the team stayed and that I hated the whole environment so much that I used to come up with excuses not to stay again. A small amount of research shows that the abuses happened over about a seven year period while at Man City.

If you watch the Dispatches program from the 90’s and I urge everybody to – it’s on Youtube - Manchester City were implicated as much as Crewe. Denials being uttered by Ken Barnes and a City Director.

So what hold do they have over the Press? I’m not by any stretch saying Crewe aren’t culpable in this and they deserve what’s happening, but his shouldn’t be a witchhunt over one specific club when there is alternative evidence just as strong. It’s far wider reaching than that, but at the moment it doesn’t appear to be reported as such.

No club wants to hear criticism and we know that John Acres fell foul when he said something to the then manager and RS took him off the PL commentary from that day forward. Ditto when he said something about CAFC and just listen to P&G last Saturday when Lee whatisname challenged Andy a long standing critic of SD and was arguing with him why SD should be kept on. We also know McGarry treats the club with kid gloves and so why is that? Because they will refuse access to the media? So bloody what? They obviously have not heard of other sources when its clear just how bad we are at the moment. Losing 4-1 to Cheltenham at HOME in the cup? Has this club NO shame than to fck the fans and they know best after such results? It annoys the hell out of me because the club lives under a giant mushroom and don't dare to ask them about things like WHY was a Director allowed to take money out of this club when we went down and down and down from the CC and then allegedly not paying it back? I tell you that IF I had been at the last fans forum when they said the academy was more important than the first team. I would have said F*** you and left immediately.

The club was dragged kicking and screaming to make a statement with this child abuse with DG saying its all been dealt with before and so Dario? F*** you too. I am ashamed of this club that I have supported since I was ten years old and you lot can't hold a candle to many of those ex players that I was proud to be a fan of. I really couldn't give a stuff about the academy and its so called coaching expertise when all buggers think about is money signs in their eyes and the next move on. Give me triers and passion any day of the week and having more coaches and managers and yet plead poverty the whole time and can't afford to bring in new blood makes me sick. The bunch of amateurs couldn't run a p8ss up in a brewery!

Well, there you go. Mike SB and Itwasin have decided, so no point inquiry or investigation. If those two clowns attended games it would be more understandable if no less unforgiveable. To be hurling allegations about in this way is highly irresponsible. Rather than using the current off-field issue to try and fuel your anti academy rubbish, you should be saying nothing!

Well, there you go. Mike SB and Itwasin have decided, so no point inquiry or investigation. If those two clowns attended games it would be more understandable if no less unforgiveable. To be hurling allegations about in this way is highly irresponsible. Rather than using the current off-field issue to try and fuel your anti academy rubbish, you should be saying nothing!

Timmy, you would be better employed as the clubs 'official' spokesperson being we get nothing from them otherwise.

I will summarise if you like but you know what you said and so prove it! Or are you too blinded by your contempt for anyone that has a different viewpoint than you. I don't know how old you are but I would guess younger than me but I would guess that I have seen more Crewe games than you have and so and listen to the commentary every week still and so tell me what's good about supporting a board of directors that told someone recently that the academy was more important than the first team that IF any other club in the country has said that,they would be laughed at as deluded people who just couldn't give a damn about what the fans think about what is on offer. Do they ever consider what the whole point is what CAFC came into existence for? 50 clubs in L1 and L2 won't spend ridiculous sums of money on a wing and a prayer academy like we do...and they think the fans should be behind them?

So come on,lets have some facts..

You need to ask the kids who were abused to see whether the club is guilty or not. Or are they too telling lies? And others who seemed to know what was going on, including an ex Director? Wouldn't the club have sued such a person for his claim that it was discussed at board level? They must know themselves NOW whether that was true or not and so why do they need an outside party to tell them? Or could it be a delaying tactic like all enquires are?

Then we did go down last season like a whimper and the board did NOTHING on both occasions? So the Directors all said up yours to the fans,we don't care what you lot think, we want to spend a million on a training facility we will do...and BTW the GRE was full that day against BC and I was in there and a survey was carried out by the club as how to make that a regular thing and so what happened next Timmy?
