Presumedly Bean saw a local production there and mixed that up with the filmed version of the 1976 RSC production of Macbeth which did star those two actors.

Can't see the RSC rocking up at Montgomery Hall.

And yet Sean Bean worked with McKellen on The Fellowship of the Ring and must have mentioned it, maybe McKellen was too polite to correct him?
