    January sales

    Do we need anybody?
Coyle claims to have 3 players targeted from overseas but to me we just need to extend emnes stay for the rest of the season
we have very little to play with so continue with what we have then strengthen in the summer
depending on what league we are in of course.

I cannot see the point of bringing in strikers, wide players, defenders, or defensive midfielders. When everyone is fit, I think we are reasonably well served in those areas, especially with various youngsters on the brink.
What I DO think we need, though, is a Dunn or Tugay. Obviously, we are not going to get someone of the quality of those two, but we desperately need a calm, foot-on-the-ball, creative midfielder who can actually see - and play! - a through ball.
Admittedly, Guthrie was beginning to look OK in that role, but he has never been consistent and he seems to be injured a lot.
Any rumours about the players Coyle has his eye on?

The strong rumours aucks that we are after Ba and cavare
Both French baised players have said they want to sign however venkys have made no comment
    no surprise there
Ba is a 6ft 7 centre back and cavare is a right back with a patchy injury record
if and with our owners a big IF they were to arrive it would open the door to Lowe and marshalls exit
mulgrew would move forward and Mahoney would feature more prominently.

As you may know Aucks, this 'gap' has been my yearning for nigh on 3 yrs now. It's been an awful, awful long time since we saw anyone actually collect the ball in midfield and deliver those tell tale passes (oh for a Perlo ).
Ok, back to reality, the likely hood of us locating a said individual is pretty remote for reasons of; would anyone of that ilk come, would he be involved in the correct manner (ie Gallagher being positioned wide?), an of course would Vankys actually 'rouse themselves' to give the nod and supply the wherewithal in a timely manner to push it over the line???
At this moment in time, unless they're playing a 'canny game', there are no grounds to give it any credibility.

More defenders, Robin? That is not Sam Ba, by any chance?

Despair, I'm a bit puzzled by the rumours Robin mentions. I really can't see that we need any more defenders, whereas the absence of creativity in midfield seems glaringly obvious!

Marshall is half out the door and with the possibility of Lowe going as well the right back role is going to be light
as for centre back we are missing a commanding presence and hopefully ba will be the man.

I take your point, Robin, and I can see the sense of some cover at right-back, but surely we have plenty of existing central defenders. Both Wharton and Travis have already been in match-day squads, not to mention the others I listed on the other thread.
Our midfielders are virtually all in the "so-so" category. That looks like the priority to me.

I completely forgot about hoban(returns in February)and ward (returns who knows)with them in mind it does seem strange to target another centre back however it seems venkys are doing the usual not getting in contact so it would appear we will run out of time
strangely the Marshall deal will go through and possibly the lowe one if there is any truth in the story
also it appears we are linked with Ambrose from Celtic
    another centre back
I wonder if there is any truth in the rumour that Wharton is not being picked due to a wage rise if he plays anymore this season
if true this is a sad that a players progress is being stagnated due to the owner's reluctance to invest.

I suppose nothing should surprise us, but can that really be right? When you think what they've already committed, penny-pinching on one player's salary seems particularly weird.
Anyway, on the wider topic, it can't really be good for the existing players' morale to hear the Club's looking for yet another centre-back.
Perhaps it's all a cover, to hide the fact that Coyle is really negotiating for a ten-million pound play-maker.
