11 PTS From the play offs

I know we have a game in hand, but its looking increasingly unlikely that we will make the playoffs now or is anyone feeling confident?

I wasnt confident even when we were 4th. The start of the season left us with a huge hole to climb out of, then wr had a good "new manager" run and since then we have reverted to mediocrity.

But the Pearson start realistically wrote off our season before we had got 25% into it. Since then some flashes of a decent side, quite a lot of flattery to deceive and some absolute stinkers. Typical 10th to 12th place form

The start certainly left us with a mountain to climb, disappointing thing is, we climbed it, got ourselves into a genuinely strong position and then just suffered the post Christmas collapse that seems to have become a Derby tradition over the last three seasons. When we were 4th I really thought we'd push on to be true play off contenders at least, but even with so many points left to play for I think our chance has gone.

Yes I am confident, confident we won't make the play offs!! This team has shown it can't put in a season's shift, huffs and puffs but not enough substance to mount a real challenge!! Midfield is where any spending in the summer should be concentrated!!

We have a glut of midfield players! Apart from a genuine mid field enforcer, to replace Thorne, I would have thought that wingers/wide men and a decent striker who can actually score goals is whats required.

As far as midfielders go, McLaren has adopted the philosophy of Ross 'the Boss' Funichello who's mantra was 'to me, quantity IS quality'.

...and de Sart. The problem is Andy, of the 'glut' that Swale mentions by name only one, Hughes, is either reliable enough or fit enough to make a decent contribution. Makes one wonder how much he'd come on with an older headed 'minder' alongside him, something all the fans already know but which seems to keep escaping the attention of the management in whichever form that takes.

10 points off them with Sheff Wednesday being this seasons collapsing in a heap team.

Reading aren't that good either, and could easily fall to pieces with suspensions playing a part

Those two dropped points on Tuesday are looking even more silly now, would have been 8 points with 2 games in hand over 6th.

Stupidly thrown away points in those 3 home games, the 7 minimum points we should have picked up in those games would have had us in the driving seat almost.

    Sigh
