    5 Months.........

Anyone else find it odd that both the previous two permanent managers have gone at five months ...... just short of six both times?

I wonder if there is a clause in those contracts saying if we hadn't attained a certain level by six months then they can be got rig of limiting any liability. Almost a probation period. I remember something when Sir Lionel got rid of Colin Todd and it had to be shy of six months.

Also people keep talking about pay offs but I understand that either the club can agree paying out the contract in full ... or part at the agreement of the manager ..... but usually they keep paying on the condition the manager finds another job ASAP to limit payouts. Much as it was 'rumored' Clough did at Sheffield united.

Under contract law I believe the manager has a duty to mitigate his loss following the breach of contract as would be there in any breach of contract, be it employment or otherwise. Hence when SM got a job shortly after being sacked the first time, he would have mitigated his loss by getting a higher paid job and so any exposure we would have had would be limited to maybe the few days he was without a job. As the breach of contract by us caused him no significant loss of earnings, then Im sure that would have cost the club nothing.

Pearson getting a new job soon would also help us if he is still on the books, but he may have negotiated a settlement by now reflecting the prospect of him finding something else, and therefore not the full stretch of his contract.

Exactly Roger. I also know someone that spoke to an exchairman of well known club and he told him how it usually pans out.

Pearson is applying for jobs in the press so fingers crossed.

But I am wondering if there is a six month progress clause in these contracts. Just seems odd its just before and as I said I remember something about the Todd. Oddly Clement only got 5 months of the season if a little longer with the close season ..... umnnnnn

Interesting...I know it doesn't help with the consistency aspect but is the suggestion then that the 'hits' we (MM) took may not be quite so big after all?

Pearson sat down with Mel Morris about his contract and how they were, going to settle his early release with his lawyer. Pearson did what was best for his family in the end and came upon an agreement, that suited both parties and made a quick exit out the door waiting for another opportunity to rise upon the occasion.

...and you know that how? Are you party to the managerial contract negotiations all of a sudden? I'm sure Pearson, McClaren and Clement have all acted in their own best interests, in fact - to the the best of my limited knowledge - only Jewell has gone in relatively recent years without a 'golden goodbye', but it is the terms which RR and Rats refer to and the fact that we may not be paying as much as was initially thought which I find interesting.

Pearson said it himself before he left.

Good observation but I doubt it, you can get rid of people quite easily if employed under 2 years so long as there isn't some form of discrimination. It's a possibility if Mac is self employed / working under an umbrella company, but I can't see why someone would sign a contract that says their pay-out would be reduced should they be removed at 5 month point, especially for football managers who get the axe after a couple of weeks of bad results. Suspect it's more to do with operational matters than contractual.

They also had to deal discreetly with his suspension problem from the fallout they both had, which lead to Pearson's utterly demise that was both difficult for him and his family to deal with. All in all,it was best for both parties. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.dai...ing-start.html

This is big boys talk R4J so I suggest that you sit back and watch instead of adding your valueless input and links. No one cares about you restating news feeds.

Adi - I find the conept of Mac working under an umbrella company rather ironic given the Wally with the Brolly background.
