    Lascelles!

Is in contract renewal talks - great! Is also in contention for the England squad - great!

But are we giving him a little too much credit in a sense? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he's our captain and I think he will become a class defender - in a few years. He was great yesterday, but he's not also starting games and it seems Rafa is just as keen on Clark and Mbemba.

Anyway, I'm happy for him and long may his development continue. Discuss.

he's due a new contract. we bought him 3 yrs ago, hes 23 now.

so it's only natural he would be in contract talks.

He's got 3 years left it said but its about time for talks on improvement better to get it sorted earlier than later.

Plus it shows others that we're willing to get contract stuff sorted earlier rather than let it hang on?

it also shows players that, if they earn it, the club will still pay it!

He clearly has good potential and whilst he still has a lot to learn, Sunday showed he has progressed under Rafa so I'm glad they're sorting out a new deal. If he continues to develop then he could be a big player for us.

(yes, he's had a fair amount of stick because of some decidedly iffy performances but this being the case, he also deserves praise when he does as well as he did against Swansea. )

it's a well made up fact that nobody improves under Rafa!

    so did Frank Clark

he said a year ago that lascelles would go on to be world class, but he wasn't so sure about Darlow.- didn't rate him half as highly.
