    Jansson 5 Year Deal

Now I know we've moaned in the past about the shortness of deals under previous leadership, but is a 5 year deal a bit OTT? with Ayling given an additional 4 year deal the other day too, it takes both of them into their 30's, will we really still want them then? it really is famine or feast at ER as far as contracts go.

Fair point. At least we'll get a fair few bob for em if ever we do find em surplus, far more than we paid. So not complaining.
Pontus not in his best form just now but you'd still expect him to prove to be the best centre back at the club in time. Perhaps the talks and the decision he had to make was praying on his mind?

Shows how far we've come though. Pontus Jansson signs a five and it hardly warrants a murmur among the support. Imagine if that'd happened a year ago?!

Some risk since 5 years is a long time but don't think football wages are going down anytime soon.

I think this owner and front office are playing the long game and that's what produces results over time.

For a player with the undoubted talent of Jansson giving him a five year contract is a no brainer. It helps him know he is secure and can settle in Leeds without the fear of his contract expiring. It means we've secured him for what should be the best years of his career 28-31 and it means if anyone does want to buy him they'll have to stump up big cash unlike most of our sales in recent years where they've had either a year or less left on their contract.

Players like Jansson, Saiz, Ayling, Vieira, Phillips it makes sense to give them long contracts I'd only be concerned if we were giving someone like O'Kane, Roofe or Anita a 5 year contract as they're good players but not ones I expect a lot of clubs to want to sign off us/ones that have shown us they'd cut it in the PL if it came to it.
