    Leaving Burnley

With all this speculation around Dyche and Everton, just who has left Burnley in the recent past and really made it big?

Recent managers Lawes dropped off the planet, Horse face became an abject failure where ever he went and Howe moved sideways at best. As for players, Ings has hardly had a game due to injury, Jay Rod, Keane, Austin and Gray have hardly set the football world alight and are playing for teams below us. Suppose they are all better off financially but from a playing perspective other than Trippier who is anywhere better?

I suppose the truth player wise is that they left for perceived better opportunities and undoubtedly higher salaries. Whether that would be the case right now is a mute point but moving away from Turf Moor I would suggest for Keane, has definitely not made him a happier bunny. Worked out well for Tarkowski though!

Manager wise Brian was out of his depth and the structure at the club at the time was not what it is today. Coyle proved to be a duplicitous scumbag IMHO and wherever he goes his fatally flawed character will resurface. I got the reason why Eddie left, his wife could not settle and he suffered a serious family bereavement. His move back to Bournemouth worked out well for him and brilliant for us, because we ended up with Sean Dyche!

To be fair Trips is doing well putting Walker out and starting for England, but Jay and Danny got into the England team after they left and were hot till injuries took them out. Charlie got an England call up too. Junior seems to be doing ok and he went for free I think. However there are lots who thought the grass was greener and found it wasn’t.

Paterson, Eagles, Shackell, Grant come to mind. It’s amazing how many have left and then got serious injuries. We have been fairly lucky as think the back room team have devised ways of minimising them. Boyd seems to be another affected by that.

I agree that (so far) only Trippier can consider that his career has improved by leaving us.

On the other hand, look at the way that our incoming players careers have blossomed by coming to Burnley generally.

The stars have certainly aligned recently for us.

    Trips still regards Dyche highly...

I read a fuller version of that Tripps interview somewhere, and he said when he first arrived at at Spurs, Poch told him he needed to get some weight off, although he admitted it might have had something to do with an all inclusive holiday he'd been on. He also said he now trains harder and is fitter than he's ever been, which surprised me, are Spurs fitter than us, does Poch push them harder than Sean does ? That's what he seems to saying.

Not sure Grant should be on that list OC, I thought Derby had dropped a ******* when they signed him, but he ended up playing for Stoke in the PL, which surprised me to say the least.

Another player who left us for better things and had his career wrecked by injury is Tyrone Mears.

    Yes Sinkov
    Forgot Mears
Now Grant went because he thought Derby had a better chance of PL football and while he made the PL for Stoke when Butland was injured and did well, but he is on the bench now ..... except just seen Butland is out again for 4- 6 weeks with a broken finger.

The lad done good though OC, I was glad to see the back of him, but he's played 96 Championship games for Derby, and 29 PL games for Stoke since he left, plus Derby picked him up for nowt off us and got £1.3m when they sold him to Stoke, so what do I know ?

The day he signed for Derby sticks in my memory, there was some rumour that he might be on his bike, but that CT chappy insisted he knew for a fact that Grant was staying at Burnley. Literally within minutes of him posting this the news was announced that he'd signed for Derby. How we laughed.

My favourite was I had it on good authority that we were about to sign Charlie Austin for a million quid and I reported the news.

My rumour was immediately shot down as rubbish and I was in the old club shop when the manager's office was over the top of the shop and in walked old Charlie Boy and his agent!

Honestly, I laughed my bollox off!
