    Dummett

Interesting stat about Dummett, i know many of us don't rate him but he does add balance to the side being a left-footed left-back.

    NUFC since Dummett returned to the team: W 3, D 4 L 2 (both v Man City).

Conceded 8 goals in 9 games.

    In the previous 9: W 1, D 1, L 7
Conceded 20 goals in 9 games

I've always thought Dummett was a steady if unspectacular performer, a natural defender who.follows his managers instruction to the letter.

the defence has been superb since both him and Lascelles returned.

if Lejuenne is now fully fit, and Dubravka can build on his impressive start, we have a good platform to build our team on.

Dummett gets stick because he's old fashioned.
This lad would have been lauded and been a revelation many years ago as a stand out performer.
The problem is, with the pace of the game and the general way we sit back and absorb attacks by pacey players, his position tends to take more of a battering, so any mistakes get magnified as well as his attacking game generally gets nullified.

    Here's my take on Dummett.
He's a good old fashioned left back who will never give less than 100%.
He's quick enough to do his job and gutsy enough to never give up in any situation.
Without these type of players you can lose grit and determination to a team. He provides that in bucket loads.

We can get hundreds of fancy left backs and hundreds of more pacier left backs but you don't find 90 plus minutes of continuous effort and refusal to go missing in most of them.
With Dummett, what you see is what you get.

A home grown comfort blanket with no frills.

Dummett is certainly better than Haidara, Gamez, santon and Lazaar.

unfortunately it took a lengthy Injury for people to realise.

I've been one of his detractors but fair play to him- the defence is far better with him in it.

Mind, those stats are also a reflection of how bad Manquillo is

Aye, Lascelles is the key part of the jigsaw-he's the detail in the picture, the others are just part of the backround...but they fit well together.

And to think that Jones and Smalling will be going to the World Cup??? That dive by Smalling was a shocker-there's no real point to the 'diving committee' if they only punish 'successful' dives. He deserves a ban, imo.

Dummett is better when he doesn't get into his mind that he can go overlapping up the left wing. He should leave the "winging" to the wingers and keep himself in his position. Easy for people to shake him up and he lacks pace but he gets some good stiff tackles in.

I think our defensive record has more to do with Lascelles than Dummett. But Dummy is the best man for that troubled position. You would want him there in preference to any other makeshift player there, for sure.
