So then how do we compare....

..the team going in to the play offs with the team last time that got us through them?

Rodak v Collin....think Rodak better certainly atm.
Emmanuel v Tavernier. Difficult one. Tavernier more silky skills going forward and an eye for goal. Emmanuel better defender and decent getting up and down wing. Emmanuel not a match winner. Think even stevens for that.
Wood v Morgan -Love wood to bits but think the youger age of Morgan at the time gives him the edge
Iekwe/ Ajayi/ Vaulks v Arnason: All 3 younger than Arnason and more athletic. Arnason stronger. All including Arnason prone to errors at times. On their day all present cds as good as Arnie. Think I'll just give it Arnie for experience.
Mattock/ purrs v Skarz. Skarz reminds me a bit of Purrs both good solid defenders but not that good going forward. Mattock good going forward sometimes prone to lapses at back but has been better of late. Think I'll just give it Mattock.
Our present right wingers v Agard. Difficult. Agard not a winger but obviously scored us some important goals. Others much better team players/ crosses of the ball but dont score many. Call it a draw.
Towell v Frecks. Slightly different styles both capable of scoring goals. Frecks always came up with imortant goals though. Frecks on that one.
Vaulks/ Palmer v smallwood. All got good engines but Vaulks more of a goal in him. Palmer a better passer of the ball. I would go for our present players on that.
Newell v Prings: Both potential match winners on their day. Both look knacked half way through a game. Draw on that.
Smith V Revell. Revell came good in big games althoigh not prolific. Smith more skilful than Revell. Smith on that. I'm hoipng he comes good on the big stage we shall see.
Ball/ Lavery v Thomas: Ball a bit too light weight for me but I like Lavery he has pace and strength and an eye for goal. Both younger than Thomas but Thomas has that big match experience. although not prolific. I'm gonna go Lavery
    though.

So there you have it very tight in comparison. The one thing I am concerned about is the number of chances we miss. the team that got us up last time didnt miss many chances. If warney can have em all fired up like Revell, Frecks and Agard were in front of goal there is no reason why we cant emulate that team.

There is another factor of course are the teams presently in the play offs as good as the ones we met last time. Thats for another thread...

The difference between the last team and this one is,
The star players last time were all down the middle. The spine of the team. Imo atm were missing that CB
As a team today's millers are better. (In depth)
    As individual there just short.

Looking at the motm performances it's spread amongst the team. As the old Wembley team had 3/4 way above others.

Looking at the teams in the play offs it just shows how 4 years is a long time in football these days. When we were beating Orient, Charlton were in the Championship, Shrewsbury were being relegated to League 2 where S****horpe were being promoted from with Chesterfield as champions. Just looking at what's happened to Orient and Chesterfield since then makes you happy to be a Miller. The teams we were promoted with, Wolves now on their way to the Premiership and Brentford were on the fringes of the Championship play off scene, as were the other team we beat in 2014, PNE.

Think that's a fair assessment Cayton. Im sure we can match the other teams but wonder if we have the match winners. Then again I wonder if the teams left have the match winners. Think Charlton might be the only one.

Well we scored 15 more goals and won 4 more matches than they did Roly so maybe we do have the match winners

True Cam. If you base it on how we have faired against the other play off teams this season we did the double over Scunny, Charlton did the double over us and Shrews we win one lose one. So its win 3 draw 0 lose 3. Shows how tight it could be. On paper the Sunny game would seem the easiest but we all know what happened with the daggers. It probably tells us we should have nowt to fear but nowt to be complacent about either.

What else is in our favour? Good team spirit? Good fitness levels? Those sort of things don't always win you games but they certainly help.

Something else you may have not realised (I forgot until I looked our old team up) when we were promoted last time in 2014 we finished 4th then too. Is history repeating its self will Shrewsbury be a conference team in 3 year time?

I think we have match winners in smith, vaulks towel, newell and Lavery

If Hursty goes to Ipswich as rumoured that could happen.
