After requesting more information about this exhibition from his daughter Roberta I was delighted to receive an invitation from her to attend this event.
Compering the evening was Sports Presenter Matt Lorenzo and he was joined by Roberta herself plus Harry Redknapp and Fleet Street Sports reporter and biographer Jeff Powell. Towards the end of the evening a guest appearance from Jimmy Tarbuck ,also a very close friend of BM ,brought proceedings to a halt . As you can imagine there were plenty of stories to be told about someone whom I regard as the best player I ever saw in front of me live on a football pitch.
I also had the pleasure of a conversation with Matt Lorenzo who made the film” Bo66y”, which was about BM both on and off the pitch. Get the dvd if you can, it’s not just about World Cup 66. I just wish I could have met Bobby Moore in his heyday. Even towards the end of his life he kept attending hospital so that others who followed on could benefit by the medical tests that were being carried out on him. Selfless to the end. Some person, some footballer . The best there ever was, the best there ever will be.
