A few years old now but considering 'what a great businessman' the owner is alleged to be it sheds light on where the problems are at the club.
The main areas which all the smaller clubs like Leicester, Everton etc have moved forward is financial growth. The very area which Newcastle have gone backwards.
Let's not forget that in 1996 we out performed the likes of Barcelona as a brand and generating revenue.
It blows my mind that this deemed acceptable by the Permier League & the Football association.
In any other business sector & business in general the man would be removed for his business failings.
Once again another sorry state of affairs!
It's a tired line... But to move forward financially you need to be marketed properly, meaning all commercial and corporate income is managed by the club.
When all your sponsorships is handed out free (to SD) , and when all your merchandise is handled by a 3rd party (also SD, who are actually paid by the club to do it). Then you hire a commercial and corporate management team externally, and pay them large amounts....
Then.... financially the club stay still, but the millions earned enhance the subsidiary companies of the owner and his extended family...
Tired? Yes... sad? Yes...
But it is his company, and he is allowed to do with it as he sees fit, as long as it is legal....
We are phucked!
Hall and sheperd paid themselves large salaries (which they were criticised for, and rightly so). But in doing so the commercial potential of the club stayed within the club.
Ashley does not take a salary, but skims most of the money off, before it even reaches the club... because the management companies are in place, the payments to them show on the books, but the incoming money either doesn't exist (e.g. advertising) or doesn't make it as far as the club (e.g. merchandise).
I repeat....
We are phucked!
Skim money?
What money?
I thought we didn't have any money to skim.
Almost a full page in my local paper about a massive drop in profits by Sports Direct.
His HQ is local to me so we get a lot of news about him and his company.
Apparently he owns 29 per cent of Debenhams stock and there losing money.
He is threatening to sort them out saying I am sick of telling them how to improve the business and they just ignore me.
