From 1984 (after keegan left as a player) until 1992 (when he returned as manager) i had absolutely no expectations as far as signings were concerned.

Then, from 1992 until the early 2000's I fully expected us ti at least have a chance of signing every single player we were linked with.

Now we have went full circle. If i gave heard of a player, and his reputation is solid or positive, then, i do not expect us to compete in the market for him.

Things are very different now (cue Hovis music ) Because of the way social media works and because of the way agents work, clubs are linked with so many players who have no intention of joining, either because they don't know anything about a move because it's a rumour started by a newspaper or even just fan speculation or because it's a rumour started by their agent to engineer a better deal with their current club or to alert other clubs that they're available.

Mind, even under these circumstances we're never linked to anyone exciting or actually any good these days.

Lacazette is the last player that I thought was exciting being linked with. And even then I thought it wasn't going to happen.
