This boy is quick, very quick and starred for Wales v Slovakia.Born in Yorkshire but qualifies for Wales through his father.Man City and Bournemouth reported to be showing interest. Why never us?
I think it has now become crystal clear that the club's proposed way forward is to capture and develop young talent, then sell it and go again. Rigg said as much last week, Dunne is being off loaded to Sunderland and we have a £30 million quidsworth of wonder kid running amok down the left wing (for now!)
If you rang the Barnfield barrie_burn and asked to tip off recruitment about the lad, the response would be, "Daniel James - never heard of him!"![]()
It was ever thus BT, I once had the priviledge of speaking to the legendary Brian Miller, when he was in charge of that sort of thing around 1990. We were in the old D4 and I told him about a Morecambe player who was arguably the best player in the Conference, certainly the best I'd seen, and besides Chalky White wanting to sign him for Colne Dynamos, there were several league clubs interested as well. I expected him to say 'we've had a look at him but......', instead his response when I told him the name was 'How do you spell it ?' Despite the fact that we were bottom end of D4, and this lad was virtually unplayable at the top end of the Conference, the division below us, and playing just up the road in Morecambe, Brian, bless him, had not only not seen him play, he'd never even heard of him.
Do you know what's going on with Jimmy Dunne BT, on the Soccerbase Sunderland page it says he's there on loan, on the BFC page it says we released him on January 1st. Surely that can't be right and he's still our player ?
He is 100% our player sinkov and is under contract, but Rigg has already told the Black Cats he's theirs if they want him (at the right amount of money of course!) I had great hopes for Jimmy but hey ho, here we go again.![]()
I think you lads spend too much time on Football Manager....
On a serious note 1959_60 by following the evidence it is now obvious what the Garlick/Dyche/Rigg modus operandi is. Find, develop and sell. I didn't think about it at the time but the Barnfield Centre is set up to do just that.
Whilst not disagreeing with you BT, if that's what we're going to use it for it's been a waste of money. All we need to do is keep an eye on the City/United reject list and take our pick. Did we need a brand spanking new Barnfield to find and develop Ben Mee, Michael Keane, Kieran Trippier, Dwight McNeill or even Jimmy Dunne ?
A bit more sophisticated than that though sinkov. There is a very clear "gateway" for 9 year old's onwards right through to the first team.
Parent and kids' facilities really are better than none. The carrot is dangled and I am 100% certain the days of "big money" signings are gone.
It may work, it may not, but at least it's a plan. The under-23's were culled yesterday, four were kept, 6 departed. The plan is obvious and it is in full swing.
I know something had to be done with Gawthorpe BT and I'm not really complaining about the money spent, just playing devil's advocate.
On the subject of our facilities, I was in a second hand book shop last week and saw one written by Lee Howey, I didn't know he'd written one and was intrigued to see a chapter on his time at Burnley. I wasn't going to buy it, but I spent ten minutes on the Burnley chapter and it was an eye opener. The first thing he mentioned was the state of Gawthorpe, basically he said it was a ****-tip, a disgrace. He also said he dropped two divisions to come to Burnley, but got a £300 a week pay rise. I think we all know why the manager agreed to that one, but Lee doesn't mention it. Then he got on to Stan, oh dear, what a fecking hatchet job, he hates our Stan with a vengeance, I can only assume he can back up what he says about him or Stan would have had him in the courts quicksticks. Anyway I'm not taking any chances by repeating anything on here, just suffice to say he really lays into him.
Well worth having a peep if you ever come across a copy lying around anywhere.
