    Player of the season

Has there ever been a season with fewer contenders at Meadow Lane? It almost seems pointless giving it to someone, a bit like some of those joke MOM awards we’ve seen given out in recent months (was it the Kane Hemmings one that elicited laughter?).

Despite him only being here for three months, I’d give the award to Mitch Rose. But if it’s to someone who has played most of the games, I’d have to say Rob Milsom - despite his season only coming good when he switched to left back. To waive his contract renewal clause so he could play shows true commitment and he’s never stopped trying. A model pro (hypocrisy alert - I was calling him blind in the first half of the season when he was trudging around in midfield and was initially miffed when his contract was renewed until the end of the season).

The other big question: Who will win our ever-competitive manager of the season award?

Competition should be scrapped this season, no player deserves anything and we shouldn’t be celebrating failure

As you say, it's ridiculous to have this award in what is almost certainly the worst season ever. But yeah, I agree, Rose or O'brien for me. Both give it everything every match. That's all we ask for. It's positive that both players are signed up for next season too. Doubt there will be many better midfielders than those two in the fifth tier.

Who else gave 100% every match? Maybe Turley, and yeah, Milsom as well.

Few strikers outside the Premiership are able to give 100% every match, they cannot score with every shot, nor can they always supply perfectly accurate passes.

Craig Mackail-Smith is my choice. We tried to sign him (allegedly) a couple of years ago and when he's given the ball in space he shows why. He's still got the pace to frighten defenders and take markers with him, it's not his fault if Ardley's tactics don't allow other attackers to find space outside the box to feed him. At 35 he's still sharp, I hope we can keep him.

Agree with all that and would add that we should try to sign Milsom up for next season too.

Milsom wasn't great after his red card when he was playing in midfield and was at fault for quite a few goals when he first moved to left back but seemed to get away with it where someone like Dan Jones would have been booed off the pitch by people. My vote would be Mitch Rose, I don't think he's had a bad game yet to be honest and gives everything while he's on the pitch.

If there is to be an award there should be dual winners.

At least this pair turned up each week (I think)

I would say that the only player we have had this season that has surpassed expectation is Bird. The fact he has been often snubbed says it all about the way our club is run.
