Thread: Derby Day

    Derby Day

Derby Day tomorrow. Meet in the local at 8 for a beer and full English then on the train to Tattenham Corner.

Been going since 1981 and Shergar. Not missed many since. My tenner will be on Anthony Van Dyck but as I've picked 1 Derby winner since then keep your money in your pocket. Any tips for tomorrow?

It would be hard for me to put in words just how much I don’t care about horse racing.

Just like the dogs for me.....I just don’t get it!

Great day out at Epsom. Went to my first Derby in 1956 and went most years up until the early eighties. Biggest success was when the late Brian Taylor steered Snow Knight home at 40-1.

Used to love the free entry onto the Downs in the early days but I believe that they charge for that privilege now. Would love to see Bangkok win it for Andrew Balding so that he can emulate his father Ian winning it with the great Mill Reef.

With 7 runners O'Brien has made a mockery of this years race as far as betting goes, can't blame him for wanting to win the money and the three that I feel could do the job are Circus Maximus, Sir Dragonet and Anthony Van Dyck with Maximus having the better draw with Sir Dragonet having slightly better ability.....however
I am having a small each way on Line of Duty at 33/1, excellent as a two year old and had a seasonal pipe opener 16 days ago, Charlie Appleby an excellent trainer.

But my lumper of a bet runs at Musselburgh and is an e/w bet Hawaam at 11/2.

You are a very lucky man 923, still on my bucket list to do the two days and a must do for next year. Fabulous racing yesterday and I am sure it will be the same today.

Done 3 bets in the Derby itself (so ones to keep away from) Broome ew at 11/2, O’Brien to have 1st and 2nd at 5/2 and O’Brien to have 1/2/3 at 14/1. The latter 2 bets I have earlier in the week with PAddy Power but odds today are down to 15/8 and 7/1 so getting a bit short. Like ***tant later on in the day but some tough races today so small bets I would suggest the order of the day.

Have a wonderful day you lucky lucky man.

GLM I see only 7 running in the race now after one pulled out which is a shame as ew down to first 2 now.

A bit annoying when that happens but the each way was with a saver in mind, I expect a win.

    Good luck today Yarm.

Fancy Nayef Road to get us off to a good start in the first race.

Same here Mick, about horse racing, couldn’t care less. In the paper today, though couldn’t help noticing a name of a horse starting in some Swedish race: Felicity Shagwell. 😎
