Following on from our visit to Billericay’s home game the day before, my son and I drove 35 miles up the A12 to watch this league two fixture. The name of the stadium is very apt as everything is geared to being friendly and welcoming. . Parking is literally across the other side of the dual carriageway in a park and ride facility(£3 per car) only a five minute walk to the stadium. Once there you are greeted by a fanzine showing live football. The cost of the ticket includes a free programme available from the club shop, or inside the stadium where you can just help yourself.
As for the game, a 2-2 draw with some drama thrown in. First , a linesman was injured before the kick off which delayed the start. Exeter’s equaliser came from the penalty spot after one of their players was fouled in the box bearing down on goal. As the home defender was the last man, he duly ended up being shown the red card. All in all a fair result and an enjoyable 90 mins of football. You don’t have to watch Premier League to enjoy yourself, and if nothing else, it was good to get away from VAR ! We both agreed we’d have no hesitation returning to this friendly club in future.
