O/T:- Were You In Skegness At The Weekend?

A dentist has warned of a “disaster waiting to happen” as thousands of people flocked to his seaside town in spite of official guidance to stay at home to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Hundreds of thousands of people were reported to have visited Skegness, in Lincolnshire, on Saturday, flouting the advice to maintain “social distancing”.

Marc Jones, Lincolnshire’s police and crime commissioner, has called for the town’s caravan sites and arcades to be closed, “and quickly”.

Clark, who voluntarily closed his dental studio last Tuesday, said he was “appalled” to see his town “looking like it does on a busy summer day” as he drove home from walking his dog along a deserted section of beach.

“I view these actions as massively, massively socially irresponsible. I personally think that those involved should be ashamed of themselves,” he said. “Now is the time for us all to come together, to stay at home bar essential trips, to look after people and to do the right thing.”

He warned that the schools being closed and the caravan parks being open would bring an “enormous influx” of visitors into the small town next week.

“People are treating it like it’s a holiday. It’s not. It’s not a holiday. This is a disaster waiting to happen,” he added. “I, for one, would not ever frequent a local business that chooses to open at a time of crisis purely for their own financial gain. I understand it. I cannot support it. It is socially irresponsible. People will die.”

There were also reports of large crowds along the East Yorkshire coast, and other resorts, including Brighton and Hove, were believed to be busy.

'Unprecedented scenes' on Welsh hills as well, images of traffic jams.

In the numbers of deaths day by day, minus 14 days - we're matching Italy's daily tally, but yesterday we overtook them. We can see what's happening over there on the news and yet we're seeing scenes like this on our beaches and parks.

Collectively, we really are a nation of idiots. Panic buying has been a problem in other countries (Australia and the US) but it looks as though we've taken it to another level. We're well on course to be the hardest hit nation in Europe despite having an extra few weeks to prepare compared to most.

Tell the someone they might have to lower themselves to penne lisce (they'll get it).

Joking aside there was speculation that last night's amendments to the lockdown decree would order supermarkets to close on Sundays, so there has been a bit of a rush on food in the last couple of days.

My supermarket has always been well stocked although I'm not in Lombardy. Fingers crossed for your friens the shelves should be back to normal next week.

More worrying is the 800 deaths a day, up from 200 per day a week ago. If it continues spreading exponentially where will we be in another 2 weeks? Doesn't bear thinking about.

Fingers crossed one of these experimental drugs comes up trumps.

Truly mind boggling. The behaviour and attitude of many is, quite frankly, beyond belief.

I remain concerned that allowing children to basically run around wherever they like is actually going to improve the situation either. I have already witnessed today several large groups/families wandering around Gedling Country Park without the slightest care in the world, completely ignoring the "social distancing" guidelines. you have to leap off the path to get out of their way. Utterly clueless. Do these people actually believe they are immune? For those of us trying to comply - it becomes a wasted effort. No more visits to GCP for fresh air & exercise for me from now on. I'm guessing that it will be closed inside a week in any event now.

These folks just show total lockdown scenario moves ever closer - Lord knows how some of these idiots will cope with that!

I was on Woodthorpe Park earlier and there were people having picnics ! Everytime I turned around a corner there were kids, I kept on having to dodge them. I think I'm gonna have to take the dog for only 2 walks a day, early mornings and evenings until I'm told I can't.

ps. Sounds like I'm adding to the problem but I'm a solitary dog walker doing my best to practice socail isolation.
pps. Having to keep away from other dog walkers I see everyday is a blessing in disguise in some cases.
