    Sliding doors

Just for a bit of fun but I'd be interested to hear people's opinions...

What if, in the 88th minute v Gillingham on the last day of the 14/15 season, John Egan headed over and we held on for a 1-0 win - keeping us in League One...

Where would we be now? Would Moniz have been able to build a decent team to compete in League One?
Would Trew have lost interest as quickly? Or would the financial state of the club become apparent much sooner and we go up the way of Bury?

I think we would only have ever been a top half side under Moniz at best. Just due to the goals we’d concede. I think the die had already been cast with Trew when he appointed Kiwomya.
He was going to invest less and less and pretty much had lost interest in his toy.

It was just a matter of time....

I do believe on that day we lost 3 - 1 so we would have to imagine Gillingham's other two goals weren't scored either.

Life would have been interesting under Moniz and if he was backed I believe he could have done well eventually, however it is very doubtful that Trew (or some fans) would have given him time to build his squad, I tend to agree with Don that RT had lost interest in his toy (or his wife allegedly) & unless some serious profits were on the horizon it was only a matter of time.

I think, sadly, it would only have delayed the inevitable. Bizarrely, Notts as a club kind of needed this relegation to the National League....though only history will be the true indicator of that statement!

If 'ifs' and 'buts' were pots and pans there'd be no need for tinkers!

We would have continued to struggle for sure. The best that could have happened is that Trew would have got fed up with the endless battles against a drop back into the 4th tier and sold up with Notts still a level higher.

TBH we have hadfar more than our own share of sliding door moments. Maybe 91/92 season having the most negative affect. There are a few home defeats in that season that did for us, Les Ferdinands last minute winner for QPR, losing 3-2 to Palace after leading 2-0 and then the final nail in the coffin the 3-1 home defeat to Sheff Utd, again after taking the lead. That said with GD we were probably 5 points short of staying up and benefiting from competing in the first Premier League season. What a difference that would have been.

If you want to look more recently then of course there is the bad reffing decisions in both the Coventry play off games, or Ryan Yates leaving for Sucnthorpe that same season. Even more recently Stead's penalty miss against Bury last season and then the draw at home to Morecombe followed by the injury time 1-0 defeat to Exeter the following week.

You could go on and on and on and on and on and on . . .
