    6/6/20 football should be back

Reports EFL football will be back behind closed doors on 6/6/20, with teams back in training on 16/5/20.

Italians proposing no fans and therefore all games behind closed doors until 2021.

If that happens here, we might as say goodbye to most of the championship. and leagues one and two.

    Not necessarily BB.

A big EFL club like ourselves might average 25,000 paying an average ( including kids and concessions) £300 each per year so £7.5m in total gate revenue.

Many clubs take a lot less than that.

Considering how much furloughing is costing then maybe there’s a couple of possible solutions.

1/ A government backed loan at virtually zero % interest based on the annual turnover of each club to be paid back over the next 10-20 years.

2/ The PL clubs funding that bailout at a small %.

3/ Every match being available as a “Pay to view” option on SKY or a separate platform at 3.00pm on a Saturday for EVERY club with no free live games available.

Most fans would pay £10-£20 to watch their team live on a match day and the take from “away” fans would be huge compared to a normal home game.

I accept it’s not perfect but I think there are solutions out there and there’s two months to put things in place.

Can I just say that as someone who has paid his taxes every year since since started employing 1968 that I don’t want to see any Government money spent on helping out football. The sport is awash with money and it should sort itself out.

Players in football, at least levels, should not be expecting the money they get. Hopefully this pandemic will bring football to its financial knees and we get a sensible pay structure throughout the leagues, including non league.

Our countries money should be sent on the real priorities not helping out millionaires, because that is what so many are in the Championship let alone the Premier league. Far too many in Leagues 1 and 2 are paid extremely well as well, agents and owners fleece the clubs. Sorry but please keep Government support in any form away from football.

The players have to take a massive cut in wages. A thousand quid a week is a big wage, £500 is very decent. They must have plenty stashed away in various accounts. They don't need it. Me & the wife comfortably get by on £240 a week.

    Quite right too.

I don’t see the pair of you as a 50 goals a season partnership.

You'll have to give me some lessons in budgeting. Basic state pension for 2 is £340 a week. I reckon we need £1500 a month to get by and £2000 to have the lifestyle I want.

According to newspaper reports today clubs in Football Leagues 1 & 2, plus the Championship now at long last talking about salary caps. About time.

Another quote by the Chairman of the EFL showing how ridiculous the situation is he has said that the clubs in the Championship in total paid out 106% of their TOTAL income on wages. You could not make it up.

Hopefully one of the good things to come out of this crisis will be a better financial structure for football in England and less reliance upon the tv deals.

We have no mortgage so that helps I guess. No desire for new/nearly new cars, so no outgoings other than shopping and the usual stuff: council tax, heating, water etc. I doubt my wife will qualify for state pension when she is old enough. Been a housewife for most of our married life, with the odd part time job thrown in over the years. We holiday in the UK twice a year, usually out of the peak season so April and September. Both non smokers.
Biggest concern is if something costly was needed house repair wise. Only have about 3 grand in the bank. Can't see how we could spend £2000 aq month or even £1500.

Big differences would be we lease 2 cars (that will be down to 1 soon) have medical insurance and spend £500 a month on socialising so that lot is £1200.

Medical insurance for the family has always been a priority for me. My wife had a breast cancer scare 30 years ago and the works medical cover paid for the tests. Her friend had similar at the same time and her experience going thro the NHS was horrendous. After that I swore my family would always be covered. I went into business for myself in the 90's and my kids had cover well before they ever had a foreign holiday.

Both the cancer scare stories ended happily.

And yes it is obscene that footballers earn so much and disgraceful they are not making the sacrifices so many are.

On another note I do have a problem with govt setting the max on these schemes at £2500 per month. Therefore 2 relative high earners could be bringing in £5000 a month to a household. Have to pretty extreme for anyone to need that much. Half that per household would surely be plenty. Or am I missing something.
