I think you may be disrespecting a fine upstanding citizen in Mr Burnham

Going into tier 3 would give everyone 2/3rds of their wages paid by the treasury. As it stands, ICUs are filling up, people are dying and people are still losing jobs. He's playing politics and not being at all clever about it, especially as he holds no power and the government can just steam roller it if they'd want
WTF does ‘playing politics’ even mean?
Yes the situation is deteriorating rapidly, which is why there should be another national lockdown for a short period of time, as advised by the government’s own scientists. There then should be the same support as there was in March. Paying people on low wages 66% is far from adequate, particularly when they don’t know how long it will last. They also want more support for the self-employed.
The money is there, or at least should be.

I thought Sir Patrick Valence answered a question about the lockdown advice very well yesterday. Basically my understanding is that he said they had recommended that but knew it needed to be balanced with other things that need to be taken into account.
Lots of people speaking about the Govt paying those kind of figures (which is clearly wrong) but few seem to be criticising those demanding it and taking it.
Opportunist at best.
He's trying to make a name for himself. Being paid 66% for doing nothing is actually really generous. I work in a job which has meant I haven't had any furlough, yet I'll have my taxes go up to pay for everyone who got furlough. How exactly is that fair? I worked my backside off working in an industry that is directly combatting Covid and yet I'm rewarded with tax rises to pay for those who basically get paid for doing for nothing for months. Tell me how that is fair?
It’s not fair. I have had no government help either and I know many other people that have slipped through the net for government help as their work dried up due to the first lockdown.
Burnham is trying to ensure that the people he represents get a fair deal when they have to lockdown - if you lived in Greater Manchester you would want your representative to do that on your behalf. In fact we are all going to end up in tier 3 or something similar sooner or later, if the people of Manchester get treated poorly we are all likely to find ourselves in the same boat.
I can't understand so many people saying how confusing the tiers and rules are. I found a website and put my old UK postcode in and hey presto the rules for the local area appeared.

Face Mask, wash hands and space - seems simple enough.
Its always easy to blame "the Government" which seems to be spending itself silly, so just a point for consideration, is the problem that a sizable minority are not exercising personal responsibility and actually following the rules?
Anyway. enough of politics, time to buy a football pass for this evenings game!
